With an infusion of national GOP resources into New Jersey's U.S. Senate race, Senate Democrats have convinced the Democratic National Committee to take out a loan of between $5 and $10 million to help their party compete with Republicans. "The money is not designated for specific Senate races, however, sources tell us that two races in particular were used as leverage in negotiations between the DSCC and the DNC. Those two races: New Jersey and Virginia," reported Hotline on Call.

Ironic that the Democrats are the pinheads always complaining about the national debt and federal deficits.
Maxing out the credit card for Boss Menendez, perhaps the most corrupt state wide candidate in recent history, sounds like a waste of money.
Why is Tom Kean Junior only pay 4% taxes on earnings of over $20
Why is Tom Kean Junior only pay 4% taxes on earnings of over $200,000.00? No wonder he wants to freeze the Bush tax cuts, with tax payers like Junior our country would be bankrupt. Read Below:
Tom Kean Jr. released federal tax returns today showing that despite making $202,488 in income, he only paid $8,146 in tax in 2005 – an effective tax rate of only 4%. Kean Jr. used tax shelters and other investments to shield most of his income from taxation.
In response, Menendez for Senate Communications Director Matthew Miller made the following statement:
“Tom Kean’s tax returns tell us everything that’s wrong with tax policy in America today. Tom Kean Jr., who earns most of his $200,000 income from a trust fund and dividends, pays only 4% of his earnings in taxes while nurses, firefighters, and school teachers pay anywhere from 10 to 20% of their income in taxes under George Bush’s policies. Those are the tax policies Tom Kean Jr. says he wants to make permanent, despite record deficits, and now we know why. Bob Menendez will fight those policies because New Jersey need tax cuts for the middle class, not the wealthiest 1%, and we need to restore fairness to our tax policy so everyone pays their fair share.

OK Mojo. We force Kean to pay a higher rate. How does that help the nurse, firefighter and the school teacher? Their rate remains the same. Their salary remains the same. Their ever increasing property tax keeps increasing. Attacking those better off out of envy does little at the end of the day for the envious. Misery love company I suppose but I don't see how a nation prospers under tax structure designed to make everyone equally miserable.
And for the record, the deficit you refer to is shrinking because of increasing revenues brought in by the tax cuts you hate. Hmmm. Don't understand that tax cuts increase revenues? That's why you are voting for Menendez.

I must not be as smart as you. When Bill Clinton was president the country had a surplus, 6 years later we are in a record deficit. It does not take a rocket scientist to understand that the Bush administration has failed this country. How does Junior paying his fair share help the nurse and firefighter, well, let's see. Economics 101 , if rich individuals were not receiving tax breaks and loopholes because of Bush they would all be paying their fair share, more people paying their fair share equals more tax revenue collected. The more revenue collected translates into the possiblity of balancing the budget like Clinton did. A balanced budget impacts the tax structure. A fair tax structure would mean the nurse and fire fighter would not be subsidizing the Kean Juniors in the world by paying up to 5 times the tax rate that Junior is paying.

mojo - Clinton had a Republican Congress (that unlike today's, actually cared about cutting spending) and a solid economy thanks to Wall Street's dotcom mania.
Our economy is starting to hum along quite nicely and the deficit has already dropped by 50% (projected close to $500b last year it's now projected to be under $250b). Why is this? It's definitely not because of a smaller budget, it's because the economy is the most important variable with regard to tax revenue. Whoever is elected in 2008, they will have a balance budget during their first year if the economy keeps performing so well.

Tax breaks to the top 1% does NOT spur the economy. Tax breaks to all Americans certainly can spur the economy.

Folks,
You just don't get it.
The State of New Jersey receives 57 cents on every federal tax dollar sent to Washington.
That means that 43% of New Jersey Federal taxes are spent in other states.
Why not cut Federal taxes and keep the money in the pockets of the people of New Jersey who can spend that money, more than likely, in New Jersey.
Why send Washington a dollar and only get back 43cents? Why?

Clinton's "surplus" came on the backs of all americans by way of the largest tax increase in history. Ask that firefighter how big his surplus was under that tax increase. And the firefighter is subsidizing the rich. He is subsidizing Menendez's base (and probably more than a few questionable transactions Bobby boy was a partner to).

The news from the GOP has been, in terms of allocating senate funds for the last few weeks of the campaign, to redirect funds from the DeWine reelection campaign in Ohio (Brown is up by double digits in some polls) and instead give them to Virginia, Missouri, and Tennessee, thus creating a firewall from Dems taking over the senate. I think that the Republican Party is only posturing by giving $500,000 for ad buys for the Kean Jr. campaign; that is pennies in the major markets of N.Y. and Philly for N.J. advertising. I do wonder whether the national Republicans, who handpicked Junior, aren't in fact giving up on winning this race, as perhaps they should.
Menendez has the momentum, he is a Democrat in a highly blue state, he has over $2 million more in the bank than Junior, and this is an anti-incumbent, anti-Republican year. With those factors in mind (and here in South Jersey, Kean Jr. has barely campaigned at all, nor bought into the Philly media market), I can't help but think that Menendez will win a full term in the U.S. senate.

Mojo, is it always about you? Again I ask, what does making Kean pay 20% get you? You are still paying 20%, too. I wonder what rate you were paying under Clinton. Probably higher than 20% since the Bush cuts lowered the rate across the board and even increased credits for any children you might have. A tax cut for the top 1% actually allows them to invest in technologies and industries that the rest of the nation will be working with and for in the next 10 years. And the top 1% pay more than half of all the taxes collected. Looks to me that the rich pick up the social tab for a lot of people every year.

Kean paying 20% would tell me we have a fair system in which everyone pays their fair share. Why should a guy who only works a part-time job and earns over 200K pay less than the folks working multiple jobs to make a living. It just doesn't pass the "gut" test. Just ask the average voter.

oh yes. Fairness. Hey, let's give the Mets a 3 run lead a the start of game six since they are a game behind the Reds. That seems fair, right?
Shall I say it again? Raise everyone to 20% and in the name of fairness everyone can share the misery.
Hey wait a minute, that is a lot like a flat tax. Think the average voter would support that idea even if it isn't quite oppressive enough for Menendez.

George W, I think that Kean Sr.'s stumping for his son indicates that Kean Jr.'s race is in trouble, and he has to once again rely on his father's patronage and relative popularity for any chance of victory. Junior is counting on voters making the mistake that they are voting for Kean Sr. rather than his waffling, hypocritical son.

Mojo,
Wait, let me get this straight... Kean Jr. is asked a difficult question and has to take a stand and he, gasp, decided to run away and hide instead! Actually, this is part of a larger pattern: Kean Jr. backed out of a televised debate with Menendez, he originally agreed to answer questions concerning the Iraq war from a military families group, he tried to wiggle his way out of a June debate by claiming he had state senate duties, and he begged his way off the state budget committee rather than face election year scrutiny and make difficult decisions.
When the going gets tough, Kean Jr., well, decides to run and hide.
