State Senate candidate Clara Nibot wants the Attorney General to investigate district 37 Assemblyman Gordon Johnson for soliciting campaign contributions at the Englewood police station.
Last month, Gordon received a letter from Englewood City Manager Robert Casey reprimanding him for accepting $40 in donations from four uniformed police officers at the station while he was a city council member.
"The entire notion that a person running for state office is possibly using his local office to strong arm people into donating to him is repugnant to the entire concept of what the Clean Election program is supposed to be about," said Nibot, a Republican who’s running at the top of a Republican slate against Johnson.
Nibot said that Gordon should give back the money he received from the Clean Elections Pilot Program and resign as an Englewood City Councilman. She also chastised Johnson’s running mate, State Senator Loretta Weinberg, for being silent on the issue.
Johnson admitted that he made a mistake in asking for donations at the police station, and said that he has since returned the money to the donors. He said that, having worked as a police officer in town for 24 years, he was conversing with his friends on the force and took donations from them.
“Some of my closest friends are in the police department, and when you’re an officer in the dept it’s like a family almost,” said Johnson. “I do admit that in the enthusiasm of being there, some donations were collected which have been returned to the individuals, so that’s it.”

Not going to happen
While I commend Clara Nibot for her call - I’m sure it will fall on deaf ears - unless Christie gets involved any request like years past with Harvey & Farber will go nowhere. Anyone remember a little thing called Tenafly/Bergenfield gate and the possible voter fraud when Loretta ran against Zisa for Senate in the BCDO election - where has that gone - NOWHERE.
Clara, is the BCDO running your campaign?
Or maybe InsideBergen.com?
How petty can we get here?
Clara Nibot Has Lost It
I commend her passion to win; but it has addled her brain.
This attack is baseless and; therefor, only makes her look dumb.
She's allowing the BCDO talking points/shenanigans to determine her actions.

Clara on message
I'm glad to see that someone at BCDO has taken an interest in her campaign. It's obvious the BCRO is playing no role.
Much ado about a $10 donation
This an hysterical campaign run by Ferriero's BCDO, using Clara Nibot and Bergenfield Republicans as their mouthpieces. All this hysteria over a $10 Clean Elections campaign donation. That's right. A $10 Clean Elections campaign donation. Whew. These BCDO clowns will stop at nothing to revive Bozo's Three-Ring Circus.
Clara Nibot is doing GREAT!!
Clara Nibot is running the best Senate campaign in the 37th district in years. She is focus on her message since she started in April. Her passion and lack of fear demonstrate she is running to win. Get this clear she is not the mouthpiece of the BCDO. Is really the other way around. The BCDO is using Nibot's issues. Is true the BCRO is not doing anything but please don't give credit to the BCDO. to answer the question "this is all about the $10.00 donations" because Johnson is under the "Clean Election Banner" to get $100,000.00 from the Taxpayers and you have to follow the rules and what Johnson did was a total violation of the Clean Elections Act. He got the rules and he knew well what he was doing and you can't have it both ways. On the other hand is nice to see how the friends of Senator Weinberg are worry about Nibot and they should because she is a strong opponent. this not the "complementary Candidate" they see every four years.
Noble Effort
While Clara and Company have made great strides, a lot of their campaign is on PoliticsNJ and how many average voters and visiting this site? Barry Honig 4 years ago spent well over $300,000 and put 14-20 hour days into campaigning and he ultimately lost in District 37. Barry did help a lot of the locals and many towns brought in R's to council - let us see if this years race does the same.
