No Shermanesque statement for Schundler

Bret Schundler on running for Mayor of Jersey City in 2009: "I never say never."

Schundler served as Mayor from 1992 until 2001, when he won the Republican nomination for Governor.  The incumbent, Jerramiah Healy, who won a 2004 special election after Schundler's successor, Glenn Cunningham, passed away.  Healy is expected to run again.

Schundler or Fulop

Either must get in this race. We need a unified front against Healy. A split race ensures a second Healy term.

Schundler's Tarnished Star

Schundler's shining star has gotten very tarnished in recent years. For a guy who had been considered a popular 2 term mayor in the 90's, Bret couldn't even win "his city" in the 2001 McGreevey landslide getting just over 30%. Even many of his own people have grown tired of him. As for Fulop, many have called him "Schundler-Lite".

He's not running unless he

He's not running unless he can be garenteed a victory and thats not going to happen.Fulop is already organizing and meeting groups outside of his ward on a daily basis.Street money is on Fulop to be the leading candidate against Healy. Can he win is the real question?

doubtful

the only way Schundler wins is in a very fractured multi-candidate race. I think Healy is going to be able to clear most (though not all) of the field.

In a 3 or 4 way race, I don't think Schundler can get a plurality against Healy. He needs like 8 candidates.
