Obama in New Jersey today

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama had three fundraising events scheduled in New Jersey today, and will pick up the endorsement of Newark Mayor Cory Booker.  Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is signing books today at the Borders in Bridgewater.  President George W. Bush will be in Edison on May 30 to raise money for the New Jersey Republican State Committee.

Good for the NJGOP

I'm glad that President Bush is coming to New Jersey and that the NJGOP isn't gutless and trying to slink away from him during a difficult period in our nation's history like some Republicans i.e. Chuck Hagel are doing. You will always find out who the real leaders are during hardship and trial.

As far as Barack Obama goes, it's like I've said before. Hillary will not let him or any other candidate see the light of day. Ironically enough though, the same African-American voters in places like Newark and Jersey City will still vote for her even though she will fight tooth and nail to keep Obama down.

Just remember, Hillary for President, Obama for Best Friend.

With a name like Barack

With a name like Barack Obama, he may be confused with a Cherry Hill terrorist.

Baracks official name ??

Is it true that Barack Obama's official name on his birth certificate is Barack " Hussain" Obama .?

Obama's Name

It is true that his middle name is Hussein. Hence why Anne Coulter has been calling him B. Hussein Obama when discussing him. It is unfortunate that his name is such an issue. I am not personally supporting him, because he looks far too ambitious. He has gone from the Illinois State Senate to running for President in 4 years-that is a big jump. I am always fearful of politicians that are that green. Obama, while well spoken and relatively free of political baggage, truly lacks experience. However, he is perhaps the best possible candidate for VP if Al Gore decides to run and is able to capture the nomination. Hillary could never nominate him. Unfortunately, Karl Rove would craft a campaign featuring spooky music where two liberal women and a liberal black man would be running the country and I do not know if America is ready to set two precedents on one ticket. Overall it is sad to see that in the race for the most important job in the world the race of Senator Obama, the gender of Senator Clinton, (and for that matter the ethnicity of Governor Richardson) has been entered into the debate. We should be looking for the most qualified Democratic candidate to lead this country out of G.W.’s mess regardless of age, gender, race, or ethnicity.

Gov.

how does this play out for Corzine who should be delivering NJ for Hillary Rotten Clinton

05/14/07 2:39 pm

Hillary

I think it is safe to say that Hillary has the establishment backing, at least the majority of it. As it stands right now, Hillary wins NJ.

Corzine is in Hillary's Corner

Corzine was the first Governor to endorse Clinton for President. It's a free country, at least as long as the ignorant, jingoistic perspectives regarding Obama's name and heritage, such as those expressed above, are appropriately marginalized. He can go anywhere he wants to raise money. Corzine won't be affected one way or the other - he has his own problems at the moment. We need to hear what Obama has to say - much of his message is necessary right now. It's just too bad that he doesn't have the experience to convince people that he's prepared to be the leader of the free world.

Welcoming the President to N.J.?

The prospect of hosting one of the most unpopular presidents in modern history is a risky choice by the N.J. GOP, but his fundraising prowess does offer a countervailing reason to invite him to the state. I do wonder, however, whether any of the Republican officials who are hosting him will a) press him on why the state’s federal income returns have steadily decreased during his six years in office b) ask him why Homeland Security funding is not being allocated on a risk-basis to our state, as recommended by the 9-11 Commission and c) how his systematic weakening of environmental laws has adversely affected our state.

All it takes is one picture with Pres. Bush, and a statewide Republican candidate can all but kiss his prospects for victory goodbye. Does everyone remember the last time someone from the Bush-Cheney cabal came to the state, and Junior avoided his owe fundraising event (a rare moment when the VP came out of hiding), saying traffic got in the way?

Question: Will Randall Tobias, Bush’s NJ abstinence czar, who recently resigned because he was caught with involvement with an escort service, be able to attend the fundraiser? http://www.slate.com/id/2165259/

The Obama factor.

Barack Obama's crossover appeal to non-minorities is tested when he makes these pilgrimages to hard core minority communities like Newark. While Booker is clearly an important endorsement, he needs to keep his campaign stops more inclusive to all Democrats and not just limited to urban areas. Obama can win this nomination with right positioning and campaign. He's the only Democrat with an authentic personality and likeability factor. I would hate to see him veer to the left so hard he throws away the very difference that has made his candidacy interesting and appealing. People are tired of race baiting politics. Obama is the right candidate to destroy that mantle of ineffective party politics.

Bush in NJ..run!

I'm going to have to shockingly agree with Martin on this one. I apologize to Dino who I normally would defend, but there is no hiding that GW Bush has the popularity of the smell on the turnpike or the traffic that one usually runs into at exits 140-150 on the parkway. In this state a picture with GW Bush would be the kiss of death, maybe even in Warren County. If I were an Elected Republican official I would make sure to be at "a previous engagement" instead of this event. And If I had to go to the event, I'd make sure not to get my picture with him because the Democrats would just send that out to their voters and voila the race is won!

While I won't jump on the Bush haters list like everyone else seems to do, I'm willing to recognize that his popularity in this state is very low.

Barack's Name

If it helps racist people sleep at night they can call Barack Obama his nickname "Barry" but frankly I think racists aren't even worth trying to appease. He is named after his father who was from Kenya so yeah he may have a name that is muslim but he is in fact a christian one of the better ones at that the UCC (United Church of Christ) for those who do not know the acronym. Either get educated or don't bother to write racist comments at all. Didn't your mothers ever tell you if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. If it is constructive critisism that is obviously different but it is clearly not constructive to attack a person based on their name.

There he goes again

Marty has nothing productive to add to the conversation, so he has to figure out a way to bash the President once again. But it is funny that he now recognizes the fact that Bush will bring in dollars to the state party's coffers after months of criticizing me for saying the exact same thing. If hypocrisy were bliss, Marty would be the happiest guy wearing the ugliest sweater on the planet. Moreover, it is curious that he cites the President's low polling numbers but fails to mention that his numbers are higher than the polling numbers for the current Congress. Maybe that is because they have failed to do much of what they promised the public - like implementation of the 9-11 Commission recommendations. They conveniently eliminated the parts of the recommendation which were unpopular with their Caucus and it has gone nowhere. Hmmmmmm - if denial were bliss...well, you know the rest...sweater...ugly...Marty happiest. NJ has always ranked at the bottom when it come to brining home the bacon - even when President Clinton was in office, Senator Lautenberg was a chair of an Appropriations subcommittee and the Democrats controlled one or both Houses. To blame Bush for the failure of others is ridiculous. Read the Constitution (not between the lines like you radical left wing crazies do every day) and even you will understand that Congress has the power of the purse. All spending bills must originate in the House - not the White House - of Representatives. What law(s) did the President "weaken" that has adversely affected the environment in the State of New Jersey? Just curious if you know.
