PENNSVILLE – State Senator Stephen M. Sweeney and State Assemblymen John J. Burzichelli and Douglas H. Fisher announced today they have received the endorsement of a dozen labor unions led by the 85,000 member strong Southern New Jersey AFL-CIO Central Labor Council.
“Organized labor is proud to endorse Senator Sweeney and Assemblymen Burzichelli and Fisher in their re-election campaign,” said Donald Norcross, president of the Southern New Jersey AFL-CIO Central Labor Council. “They have a proven track record of fighting for organized labor and we know they will continue to fight for our members and their families.”
“As a union member, I recognize the significant role organized labor plays in New Jersey’s economy,” said Senator Sweeney. “Protecting workers and providing them with the resources they need allows us to spur economic development and create even more jobs.”
In addition to the Southern New Jersey AFL-CIO Central Labor Council, the following labor unions have formally endorsed the incumbent legislators: UA 322, IBEW 351, UFCW 152, UFCW 1360, Ironworkers 399, GCC/IBT 14M, IUOE 825, LIUNA 222, SEIU 32BJ, UAW 2327, HPAE Statewide, BAC Statewide and UBC Statewide. Additional announcements are expected shortly.
“Organized labor recognizes our dedication to working families in New Jersey,” explained Assemblymen Burzichelli. “We will continue to support important legislation like paid family leave that protects workers and allows them to put their families first.”
“These endorsements reinforce our commitment to issues affecting New Jersey’s working families,” said Assemblyman Fisher. “From affordable healthcare and prescription drugs to protecting our children and seniors, we will continue to bring results to the working families in our district.”
