Bergen County Republican Organization Chairman Rob Ortiz responded today to the Democratic coup in Lyndhurst, where the town’s entire governing board decided to abandon the GOP for the Democrats.
While losing a whole town doesn’t bode well for the county’s beleaguered Republican Party, Ortiz’s response was summed up by the heading of his press release: “Good riddance to bad rubbish.”
Ortiz said that Lyndhurst Mayor Richard Dilascio was already known to be an ally of Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joe Ferriero and of State Sen. Paul Sarlo, and re-hashed the charge that DiLascio was offered county job in exchange for making nice with officials at EnCap, a controversial Bergen County mixed-use development.
"I'm surprised that Joe Ferriero thought that this non-news warranted a press conference, but no one in Bergen County is surprised by today's announcement,” said Ortiz. “It has long been known that Richard DiLascio and his colleagues are under the influence of Ferriero and Paul Sarlo.
DiLascio’s departure from the Republican party had been rumored for months, but the scope of the change – the town’s governing board and 60% of its county committee men and women – took observers by surprise.
Ortiz said that he would fight to get a new breed of Republicans elected in Lyndhurst.
“We now have the opportunity to get real Republicans in office in Lyndhurst come May, not shameless self-promoters who are influenced by the likes of Sarlo and Ferriero,” said Ortiz.

Alright Rob!
We now have the opportunity to get real Republicans in office in Lyndhurst come May, not shameless self-promoters who are influenced by the likes of Sarlo and Ferriero,” said Ortiz.
BRAVO...go get'em kid!
YES
Good riddance to bad rubbish – love the garbage reference. DiLacky best do or vote quickly for whatever was potentially promised in the ship jump – Come May him and his crew will be gone and Ferrerio wont need them anymore.
guys, there is no election this may
Ortiz screwed up. he never reached out to anyone in lyndhurst. you are all idiots.
Thats whys I suggested a recall
RECALL BABY!
We regret that they didn't do it sooner
News that the entire membership of the all-Republican governing body in Lyndhurst and more than half of Lyndhurst’s Republican County Committee will switch to Democrat was greeted with regret in the Freeholder and Sheriff’s campaign. “We regret that they didn’t do it sooner” said Andrew Gause, for the campaign, “I am sure that Chairman Ortiz will enlist loyal Republicans to take their place. This wasn’t really a shift in party affiliation, as true Lyndhurst Republicans realize. This crowd has been voting and acting like Ferriero Democrats for quite a while. At last, their poor legislative actions and performance will reflect upon their true master, Joe Ferriero. "The removal of this much dead wood will certainly allow true Republican principles to blossom in Lyndhurst. Now that these placeholders have removed themselves perhaps honest Republican ideals can again be reflected in Lyndhurst." We look forward to reinvigorating the Lyndhurst Republicans.
Good luck finding County Committee candidates
you guys don't even live there...you're just angry wackos
fact is you're all devastated
never thought that you'd lose this many county committee and the ENTIRE governing body. and you fools think the best response is to attack people personally who live in the town? No wonder you're losing so many elections.
The Lindhurst RATS
Kudos to Ortiz ( the Pied piper of Lyndhurst) Now it is in the open on Channel 4 that Lyndhurst has been infested with RATS from Moveon.org It was funny to see them on TV with Freeloader Carroll the obese FAT CAT UNION BOSS in the backround.
Who cares?
That pathetic news conference was almost comical.
Paul Sarlo will lose Lyndhurst as well as Rutherford no matter how many hacks he buys!
These people don't work on election day other than vote. They could care less if Sarlo wins or loses.
DiLascio could never win as a Republican, what makes him think he can as a Democrat?
When a guy like Guarino with no money and organization makes a go of it come election day, people will realize its the issues that count and not a bunch of politicians with nothing else better to do on a Tuesday.
Isn't it funny that Sarlo and BCDO has almost no support on this site? There own people are embarassed.
What a surprise!!
Republicans stand for nothing, Democrats are corrupt but in control, so with no principles to defend, might as well share in the booty.
"The Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions." -

Bravo Rob
As one of the remaining GOP county Committee members, I was glad to see your response to these traitors. Having been a member of Lincoln's party since I was a child, and being blessed to work with the likes of Peter Russo, Mr. Republican and Mr. Lyndhurst, I am truly happy to see these pseudo-Republicans finally change parties and become what I have always known them to be... democrats in Republican clothes. Their party change did not surprise me. Michael Guarino is gaining momentum, with no money, and Sarlo and company are afraid they will lose. Now, with these "new" democrats, Guarino will be our new Senator. Demsanddonts is correct. Sarlo and company will go down in Rutherford along with McPherson and her gang of tax and tax liberals. I am only sorry that I couldn't get close enough to paraphrase other great Republican leader, Ronald Reagan... "the bombs are heading your way in 5 minutes..." Watch out Joe Ferriero, DiLascio is now yours, and he won't be happy until he takes over your organization. Time for you to get used to the "bib and baggie" group he has following him.
that's interesting demsanddonts
oh, how r u guys doing in north arlington? obviously you're from there in that it's the only town you didn't mention as as a problem for Dems of the big three (Rutherford, Lyndhurst and NA)...thing is you're going down there beause the dems raised taxes 33%. I'm sure the senator and Lyndhurst mayor appreciate your party loyalty in trying to make your fate, theirs. good luck in november...I imagine Sarlo will still be standing, where as you all may not be. ...as for the lyndhurst republicans...lets see them fill all those CC seats...you all should stop writing posts and get to work. Big talk should be backed up by action, no?
Bergenboy14
The entire CC will be filled shortly, not that it matters to you. Lyndhurst will be back "STRONG & PROUD& LOUD"
be sure to post that list...
we can't wait (and make sure they're living)
btw, not for nothing...
...where do you guys get your crack? cause mike gaurino can hardly walk, never mind gaining any "momentum"...lol...wow, I'm surprised more people didn't leave the alternate universe you all call a Party...
bergenboy or maybe JB
We all know who you are. People are lining up now that Richie is gone. Call your buddy in Nutley. The memeber of the Nutley People.
bergenboy or maybe JB
We all know who you are. People are lining up now that Richie is gone. Call your buddy in Nutley. The memeber of the Nutley People. Saw you at the event today.
LOL...awww...you figured me out
yeah, I'm JB! That's it. Now get to work...those seats are empty...
Did you ever think.....
That these Republican County Committee members were loyal to the G.O.P for years and just maybe as time went on began to realize that the People were more important than the down and out almost financially bankrupt (what's left of) the Republican party in Bergen County... was not worth their effort?
AND to be told "good bye to bad rubbish" eliminates any possibility of a reconciliation altogether.
There are Evangelical Republicans, maybe now we we are seeing the beginning of "Epiphanical Republicans" and all we Dems can say is welcome home!
Hillary/Richardson 08
Be there!
The sad part is that while
The sad part is that while these leaders play politics and Ortiz and DiLascio trade punches these south bergen towns are still facing high tax increases and the fiasco that is EnCap. Outside of Rutherford the Republican's campaign has been futile. Can anyone blame the Lyndhurst officials for leaving the party? Republicans with these conditions cant you field any decent challengers? Democrats how long do you really expect to retain control if the issues in these towns are not addressed? How long will the people live with this EnCap fiasco over their head before they demand a change? Sen Sarlo if you are really serious about climbing the ladder this is a great chance to show your leadership and address the problems in your district. And Mr. Ortiz, if you want to be a respected chairman, find a decent candidate to run against Sarlo. Dont continue to attack his leadership when your party fails to offer another option.
The really sad part " Lack of Moral compass"
Dilascio and his band have been AWOL from supporting Bergen Republican County ticket for years. Infact they stand for NOTHING. To call themselves Republicans is a gross insult even to the likes of Christie Whitman. As for Mike Guerino he is better than any of the Dilascio toties and lackies on his worst day .
Republicans, Independants and even Real Dems will come out on
Tuesday Nov 6th to send a message to Sarlo and Di lascio that Lyndhurst is NOT for sale
Sarlo's drowning.
In his own inflated sense of self-importance.
He only seems to get along with Republicans looking for a job rather than good Democrats who have worked hard for legislative victories for decades.
Democrats in Rutherford will lose because of this association with a bad project like Encap.
