Andrews Campaign Talking About Voter Choice Is Like George Bush Talking About "Strategery"
According to his campaign chairman, Rob Andrews believes that in New Jersey, "we have elections, not coronations." Sadly for the residents of his own district, the scepter and coronation robes have already been reserved for Andrews' own wife, Camille, whom Andrews' own hometown newspaper on Sunday called a "straw candidate." In fact, the Courier Post editorial castigated Andrews and his party bosses for choosing Camille Andrews as "a placeholder on the ballot so that they -- and not the rank-and-file voters -- will have more time to decide who should be the candidate."
According to the Courier-Post, the backroom process Andrews supports "will effectively disenfranchise Democratic primary voters." According to the editorial, Andrews and his party bosses "appear oblivious to the line they plan to cross."
Rob Andrews also informed the Courier Post editorial board that his wife was more than willing to step aside after the June 3rd primary so party insiders can select her replacement and the next likely congressman from the district in what the newspaper termed "a back-room event."
Apparently, Andrews does not believe that the voters in his own home district should have a say in his replacement. Instead, he and his party bosses have determined that they will coronate Andrews'replacement to represent the residents of the 1st Congressional District.
Rob seems to think he can hide behind his party bosses. But he can't.
Rob seems to think "Democrats make an informed choice on June 3rd." But not in his own district.
Rob seems to think that we have coronations for Congressional seats in New Jersey. But we have elections, not coronations.
