House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has contributed money to John Adler’s campaign for Congress in the third district – a strong indication (and no surprise) that national Democrats are backing the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman in his challenge to twelve-term Republican James Saxton.

Pelosi backs Adler
She's back Hitler if he was a Dem. The woman has no morals or sense, just party loyality.
Is this a surprise?
Come on. Is this really a surprise? It does remind me of all that money the Democrat leadership wisely spent on Susan Bass Levin. Over $2 million later, how is her congressional career? Oh wait. Despite Gephardt, Bonior, Pat Kennedy, the Clintons, and Al Gore getting involved and raising money for her, she got creamed by Saxton. We are looking at Levin Part 2.
No, it's not a surprise
The Levin issue is one that a few Republicans have brought up, but that seems to be a case of apples and oranges. Levin, even now, is not particularly liked by folks down here; Adler, on the other hand, garners widespread admiration and is usually viewed as smarter and more politically adept than Levin.
Make no mistake: Saxton will have his hands full with Adler in 2008. Perhaps he should make it easy on himself and just retire ;) Already, campaign ads are running in Ocean County that highlight Saxton's unconscionable vote against children's health care, and I expect the Dems to continue to be aggressive in attempting to flip this seat. If Pelosi is helping Adler raise funds, then that indicates the DCCC and House Speaker are making district 3 at least a semi-priority, though more resources may ultimately be devoted to district 7.

Democrat leader backs Democrat candidate!!! Extra Extra read all about it...
WOW! WHAT NEWS!
It's enough to make me, and many moderate- to conservative Democrats, get behind Saxton!
Keep dreaming Martin!
Not apples and oranges
Maybe you weren't in the vicinity when Levin ran in 2000 but she was the DCCC's top recruit and lauded for her 12 years of stewardship of Cherry Hill. But Saxton defined her early, fought her on her own turf and made her spend her money in Camden County. Redistricting carved out every Camden town except Cherry Hill which Saxton narrowly lost in 2000 to the incumbent mayor. Adler will win Willingboro - Saxton has never won it to my knowledge. But that is a tough starting point for Adler. As for those ridiculous ads, Saxton was correct in voting against the bill. The bill would cover families making over 80k a year - not poverty to me. It is not paid for - it would require 21 million new smokers to pay the tax increase to afford the expansion. It covers illegal immigrants while making legal immigrants wait 5 years to qualify. That makes a ton of sense - penalize those who did it the right way and reward those who came her illegally - the Democrat mantra. And finally, Saxton was one of the members who supported the creation of SCHIP.
Adler no match for Saxton
In the anti-republican year Saxton coasted to victory last year.
Boss Norcross will waste a million plus on this one.
Pelosi backs Adler
If it looks like a PIG and talks like a PIG than it's a PIG!!!
Pelosi, she's poison in NJ
The Senator can take her to AC where they're losing big bucks from his libral smoking ban attitude against business that NJ is losing. Since either of them know what real issues are in AC or world affairs they would be perfect together as the former Governor Kean's slogan became so popular. "NJ and you, perfect together". The good senator should stay far away from California's libral idiot! Saxton's got a few more good years.
Saxton's albatross
Bass Levin ran in a different political climate altogether; most political prognostications show that Republicans will actually do worse in 2008 than in 2006, and a cautious estimate would put them even, not gaining seats, on the Dems. When a failure like Bush is at the top of the ticket, and a congressman like Saxton continues to vote with and support him, it makes the Democratic argument that Bush's policies (stem cells, Iraq War, SCHIP, etc.) are indeed Saxton's that much more palatable. Combine that with the Republican congressional committee having less than $2 million in the bank, while the DCCC has $22 million, and this could be the year for an aggressive, well-funded Adler.
Regarding SCHIP, Saxton's unconscionable vote will be an albatross that haunts him, and the DCCC is right already to target him in traditional Republican strongholds. (As an aside, Wally reported that district 3 went only 51% for Bush in 2004; that's not the numbers as I understood them, but all of us would agree the district is shifting more Democratic). Unfortunately, the facts belie the claim about illegal immigrants and adults are the beneficiaries of SCHIP, as the Chicago Tribute states "Rumors that SCHIP will cover illegal immigrants and adults are simply not true." Further, a family of four in Illinois can qualify if they make up to 60k -- that's hardly a livable income for a large family in an expensive state, including our own. Saxton is going to be in trouble for this vote, mark my words.
Hold the horses
Are you serious? 60k is NOW poverty? Please don't try to fool everyone by stating that a family of four living in Illinois are struggling by making 60k a year. The likelihood that they are being extended health care through their employer is great especially in a strong union state such as Illinois. The argument that a college education for the family of four is unachievable is bogus. A family living on 60k a year would qualify for federal and state assistance and have most if not all of their college paid for especially if they elected to attend a state sponsored school. Heaven forbid they have to take out a loan to pay for college like I, and millions of others, had to do. And while I respect the reporter who wrote that wonderful quote in the Chicago Tribune(sic) - actually I don't respect the reporter but I thought it sounded nice - the reporter is wrong - yes, wrong. Why don't we take the opinion of someone who would know the facts instead of spewing information that is not accurate (reminds me of someone on this board). Social Security Administrator Commissioner Michael J. Astrue is on public record as stating the opposite. Commissioner Astrue makes it explicitly clear that this new provision will not prevent legal and illegal aliens from violating our laws and qualifying for Medicaid and SCHIP. Again, I will ask; who am I to believe? A reporter or the person whose agency administers the program? Hint - it is not the reporter. This will resonate with the folks in Burlington and Ocean Counties. Once they realize what is actually in the bill, they will oppose it too. So until the bill actually helps those in need and not folks making 83k a year or illegal immigrants, but most of all fail to pay for it fully (it would require 21 million new smokers to pay the new tax to cover the cost of the expansion), Saxton should continue to oppose it.
As for the race, Saxton will be fine although he will have to spend money. The climate was different - in favor of Bass Levin! You had 8 years of the Clinton-Gore and Gore was at the top of the ticket. You had the sitting President come in to raise her money; the First Lady and Senate candidate from NY come in the raise money for her; the sitting Vice President and candidate for President come in to raise money for her; the House Democrat leadership (Minority Leader, Minority Whip and DCCC chair) come in to raise money for her; and she spent more than Saxton. Additionally, the NRCC was not actively involved in the race. You think that a sitting President or Vice President is going to come in for Adler? But how did she do? Keep dreaming Marty.
Pelousi a Pig
Yep, that says it all! She is a self serving ego maniac who is not smart and piggish.
Let adler get his tushie handed to him like levin did! Saxton is in, no questions.
