It is more than a little ironic that the Asbury Park Press, the newspaper that effectively ended Republican control of the New Jersey State Senate in 2003 when they played a major role in the defeat of Co-Senate President John Bennett. Since then, the Gannett-owned paper seems to have gone solidly Republican in the endorsement game. So far this cycle, the APP has endorsed nine Republicans and one Democrat (Michele Rosen, who has virtually no chance of winning in a solidly GOP district). In 2005, the APP endorsed twelve Republicans for twelve Assembly seats in Monmouth and Ocean counties – and Douglas Forrester for Governor.

APP evil empire mouthpiece
Let's also remember their evil strategy of endorsing an independent for freeholder to split the "anti" vote and give Darth Larrison a firm Imperial Guard board to back him up.
asbury park potato heads
APP editorialists, what an impressive group of geniuses. The only major newspaper in NJ to endorse George W. Bush in 2004. Brilliant call guys. Keep up the good work. Hey does Tom Wilson have to report your editorials to elec as in-kind contributions?
Freeholders too?
did they endorse the GOP for the Freeholder seats in Monmouth? If so, then they really have no credibility. They ran that whole "Club Monmouth" series about the GOP Freeholder Board, and even though those old guys are gone, these newbies are the handpicked successors.
They think readers don't
They think readers don't notice that they are no longer an objective publisher.

An APP/GOP sweep in the 11th.
dead trees for a dead medium
find me a paper that hasn't lost its objectivity anymore. They all lean left or right with a majority leaning left. Subscriptions are continually dwindling and I think as noted above readers (what is left of them) know the slant and tend to agree with it which is why they still read a particular paper. On the whole we could save a lot of trees and publishers safe a lot of money if they just printed sports, weather and restaurant reviews. I suspect if the APP endorsed some democratics this round you guys would be singing its praises as couragious, defiant and outspoken
You have to read the editorials as well
If you read their editorials you will see the reason they are endorsing Republicans in the State Legislature is because they want to end the heavy handed one party Democrat control in Trenton.
We will have to wait and see who they endorse on the County level to see if they have a Republican bias. But, if history is any judge they will not endorse the Republican slate (although, the Democrats have made it pretty difficult in Monmouth not to endorse the Republicans ... the Dems are that bad).
Also look to see their endorsements for the Assembly in the 12th.
