Rothman emerges as winner in New Jersey Obama power struggle

There has been some infighting within Barack Obama’s New Jersey campaign since the February 5 Democratic primary – and the turf battle has resulted in a major political victory for Congressman Steven Rothman. Last week, Obama sent a letter to the Democratic State Committee changing the official representative of his state campaign from Mark Alexander to Rothman and his Chief of Staff, Bob Decheine.

The matter was settled on a conference call that included representatives of the state Obama leadership, including Rothman, Alexander, Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, and State Senators Loretta Weinberg and John Adler.

Rothman, a six-term Congressman from Bergen County, is the only member of the New Jersey delegation to endorse Obama. Alexander, a Seton Hall University law professor, ran Obama’s New Jersey campaign after serving as his national policy director.

"GIGO"?: Are You Talking About Bush and McCain?

We'll know in November, eh?

Let's see if McCain is found anywhere within a hundred yards of Bush at any time (other than the convention) between now and Nov.

Sadly, John McCain has chosen to embrace an insanely corrupt and stupid war that is screwing American taxpayers to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars and spilling American blood for no good reasons other than war profiteering and political distractions from domestic policy realities.  He can avoid President Bush; but he can't run away from the fact that he's committed to taking us deeper into the morass of Bush's Iraq disaster.

The only way McCain "wins" if is Amercans remain terrified. The whole Bush/Cheney/McCain agenda/"strategy" is intellectually/morally bankrupt.

It took guts for Steve Rothman to back Obama as early as he did; I give him credit for that.

So, "Max" you can get as "Mad" as you please....it doesn't change the liklihood that you'll be saying President Obama for, at least, the next four years. :-)

Member of the House versus a well intentioned College Professor

This isn't even close. Plus Rothman was there before Obama-mania hit. He was there when everybody was scratching their heads and saying, 'Poor Steve, he's gone nutty".

Jun Choi

Wally wally. THREE mayors endorsed Obama at the beginning. THREE mayors were on that call. Not two. While I believe Booker and Healy did the right thing by endorsing Obama, it was also a much easier political decision than it was for Choi when one examines the ethnic makeup of their respective cities.

Also, in both Jersey City and Newark there were other vocal Obama supporters, while there were no significant supporters in Edison nor Middlesex County. It takes guts to do the right thing and this guy keeps doing it, yet he never gets any mention in your columns. Whats with the Jun Choi hate?

Rothman rolled the dice

It was a win/draw situation.  Given his lack of seniority and influence, Rothman would have been low man on the totem poll if he endorsed Hillary.  The Obama endorsement would have been forgiven if Clinton won (the "draw" scenario).  Now he's riding high.  Not a difficult call on his part.

Si se puede.

Rothman did in fact roll the dice and he came up a winner.  Something you won't see or hear about on that other site that pretends to cover Bergen County.

The "all Joe all the time" site has ignored the fact Barack Obama is going to be the nominee and that it actually helps Bergen County to have people in both camps.

HRC's numbers in Bergen were all about an embedded favorite son candidacy that assumed she could not lose. Now all bets are off and her candidacy is in a state of shock and denial.

If Rothman is smart he'll broker the endorsement of the BCDO to Obama. If the BCDO is smart, they'll take him up on that offer and everybody wins.

No need to go down with Hillary's sinking ship.

Demsanddonts make me laugh...LOL

Rothman and Obama are making my town GOP again! Demsanddonts is so clearly loyal to Rothman he can't see that he destroyed his Party in NA by backing Obama.  (He also predicted Obama would win Bergen...but Obama was crushed everywhere, including Rothman's CD and in NA...1300 to 400...Demsanddonts remember that?).  Obama is going to be a disaster for the NA Dems in November.  That's fine with me, they raised my taxes almost 50% since they've been in!  Bye-Bye...Demsanddonts let the door hit you in the a** on the way out...

Time for your medication?

Is Obama not winning?

Are you ignoring the public polls, popular vote and delegates counted?

Don't understand the Rothman reference to North Arlington. I'll have to get back to you on that one...

Why is Obama bad for Democrats?

Care to enlighten us on that reference?

02/27/08 10:16 pm

Nice retort.

Was it breaktime at the mental hospital for you to make these kind of enflamed comments?

Who is "scum?"

* Obama

* Me

Or were you looking in the mirror and didn't recognize yourself?
