SARLO, SCALERA AND SCHAER EARN NJEA ENDORSEMENT

36th District Lawmakers Pledge Continued Strong Support for Public Education

(RUTHERFORD) – The 36th Legislative District team of Senator Paul A. Sarlo and Assemblymen Fred Scalera and Gary S. Schaer today announced that they have received the endorsement of the more than 200,000 current and retired teachers and educational support personnel of the New Jersey Education Association.

“Few things command the pride of a community more than high quality public schools,” said Sarlo. “Attracting and keeping dedicated teachers is fundamental to preserving our reputation as one of the nation’s best states for public education. Whether in Trenton or back home, NJEA is key to ensuring that educators and support staff have the resources needed to make our schools truly great places to learn.”

The 36th District team was integral in ensuring that nearly $600 million in new school funding was included in the current state budget. They also have been leaders in the state’s efforts to boost awareness and programs for children with autism.

Sarlo, Schaer, and Scalera also played a key role in preventing the former School Construction Corporation from building a new Passaic school next door to an adult movie theater.

“NJEA plays an invaluable role in ensuring that our public schools have every tool at their disposal to give our children a top-notch education,” said Scalera. “Whether the issue is strengthening curriculum or creating an equitable school funding formula that benefits all kids, the NJEA know intricately what matters to New Jersey’s schools.”

“Support for public education may begin with supporting the professionals in the front of the classroom, but continues with delivering for children and their families,” said Schaer. “We are proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our education professionals, and look forward to continuing our work to ensure that New Jersey’s public schools remain the nation’s best.”

The 36th Legislative District includes Carlstadt, East Rutherford, Garfield, Lyndhurst, Moonachie, North Arlington, Nutley, Passaic, Rutherford, Wallington and Wood Ridge.
