SCHAER RESPONSE TO CORZINE BUDGET PROPOSAL
Assemblyman Calls for Responsible Fiscal Discipline
(TRENTON) - Assemblyman Gary Schaer, Vice Chairman of the Assembly Budget Committee, today said Governor Corzine's budget proposal reflects the difficult reality the state faces.
Schaer (D-Passaic) issued the following statement:
"State government needs to lead by example and establish the fiscal discipline necessary to bring all New Jersey residents the financial health they deserve.
"All levels of government across the state face the responsibility for making hard decisions. When businesses are in the red, they don't continue to borrow and spend more, they find ways to be disciplined and frugal. Government should follow that mantra by showing fiscal discipline and making tough choices.
"In the weeks and months ahead, I will join with my colleagues on the Assembly Budget Committee to identify ways that the state can reduce costs and provide fair cuts that share the burden while still protecting our most vulnerable residents. "
