PAYNE, CODEY, BOOKER ANNOUNCE COUNTYWIDE ESSEX SUPPORT FOR LAUTENBERG
NEWARK, NJ – U.S. Rep. Donald Payne, State Senate President Dick Codey and Newark Mayor Cory Booker today announced a lengthy list of local, county and state officials from Essex County that are throwing their support behind U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg’s re-election bid. The growing list of democrats that gave their endorsement today includes local mayors and council members, county freeholders, and state legislators.
“Senator Lautenberg has worked tirelessly for the people of New Jersey to promote better jobs, improved transportation, a cleaner environment, more affordable health care and economic development in all of our communities. It is important that we keep him fighting for us in the U.S. Senate so that he can continue to build on his remarkable record of legislative accomplishments,” said Payne.
“Now more than ever, we are going to need Frank Lautenberg’s experience and tenacity in Washington to help turn this country around,” said Codey. “Sen. Lautenberg has always understood and fought for the needs of Essex County, particularly post-9/11 when the Bush administration tried to play politics with homeland security funding. This is one of the many reasons he enjoys such widespread support in Essex County.”
"Frank Lautenberg has demonstrated his effectiveness in standing strong against special interests and in making a real difference for the people of New Jersey. From getting guns out of the hands of criminals, to protecting New Jersey from acts of terror, to supporting health care and college education for all New Jersey families, Frank Lautenberg has delivered for our state time and again. In a critical time for the future of the City of Newark, our state and our nation, I hope that our party can stay united behind Senator Lautenberg. My unwavering support has been and remains with Senator Lautenberg," said Booker.
In announcing their endorsement today, supporters cited Sen. Lautenberg’s unparalleled experience and his temerity in standing up for the issues that matter most to New Jerseyans, including: improving transportation, securing homeland security funding, protecting the environment and fighting for health care access for all.
The following is the list of Essex County supporters that have pledged their endorsement:
