CODEY STATEMENT ON FY 2009 BUDGET
TRENTON – Senate President Richard J. Codey (D-Essex) today released the following statement on the Senate’s approval of the FY 2009 Appropriations Act:
“This budget clearly reflects the reality of our fiscal situation. Much like millions of Americans across the country, we have to do more with less. This budget required a lot of painful decisions, decisions nobody really wants to make but that had to be done.
“I’d like to thank many people, particularly Governor Corzine, Speaker Roberts and Senate Budget Chair Barbara Buono, for their tireless cooperation and dedication during this lengthy process. Together, I think we have been able to compassionately prioritize our limited resources. The end result is a budget with record setting cuts that still maintains vital health care coverage and property tax relief for those who need it most.
“The size of this year’s budget reflects the will of the people who made it clear, in no uncertain terms, that they want their government to make cuts, much like many of them are being forced to do.”
