With labor and environmental organizations calling for Singh to end her distortion of her opponent’s record and a member of her own party calling her campaign “intellectually dishonest,” Singh continues to lie in an attempt to jump-start her campaign.
According to PoliticsNJ.com, Singh now claims to have the support of the Communications Workers of America Local 1039—But the Communications Workers of America voted so support Singh’s opponent, Bill Baroni, on May 4th.
President of the CWA Local 1039 Thomas J. Palermo, Jr. said that his organization voted to support Baroni: “The Communications Workers of America Local 1039 are proud to offer our strong endorsement of Bill Baroni for New Jersey State Senate. Bill Baroni has stood shoulder to shoulder with the working men and women of New Jersey and has fought for us on issue after issue. We believe he will continue that fight to support us in the State Senate, and we offer our full support.” (Press Release, 5-4-07)
Palermo reiterated the support of CWA 1039 for Baroni on Saturday, saying "We fully endorse Mr. Baroni and proclaim that he's our man.”
Last week, Singh was rebuked by several organizations, including the Teamsters Joint Council 73, New Jersey Environmental Federation, and the AFL-CIO, and New Jersey Education Association for negative attacks lying about Baroni’s record and comparing him to George Bush:
“..It would be laughable if it weren't so serious that Bill's opponent points to a pro-environment vote he cast that we agree with. This uniformed and/or disingenuous attack just further demonstrates that Bill Baroni is the environmental candidate in this race," stated David Pringle of the New Jersey Environmental Federation.
“Accusations that Bill Baroni is ideologically comparable to George W. Bush are an act of desperation and are completely out of line with Baroni’s proven voting record.” – Joyce Powell, President of the New Jersey Education Association.
“Bill Baroni is a truly independent voice for working families and that is why the New Jersey State AFL-CIO was proud to endorse him for State Senate. Accusations that Bill Baroni is a "Bush Republican" are laughable.” – Charles Wowkanech, President New Jersey State AFL-CIO.
“We are shocked by recent attacks by Bill’s opponent calling him a ‘Bush Republican.’ We know Bill Baroni--nothing could be further from the truth, and we call on his opponent to stop these senseless attacks.” – Cliff Nolan, Chairman of IBT Joint Council 73.
