Summit – In recognition of “National Small Business Week” Dr. P. Kelly Hatfield, Republican candidate for Congress representing New Jersey’s Seventh Congressional District, today called for Congress to take steps to strengthen the US economy by expanding support of our nation’s small businesses.
“Small businesses are the backbone of the US economy as they are responsible for the creation of 80% of all new jobs in America,” she said. “It is imperative that we support these enterprising individuals with pro-growth policies that reward rather than penalize productivity.”
Dr. Hatfield said it would be an economic catastrophe if Congress allowed the Republican tax cuts to expire in 2010 as 27 million small business owners would face an average tax increase of more than $4,000 per year.
“This is a big tax bite for small businesses many of which are S Corporations, partnerships and LLCs who pay their business taxes at individual rates,” she said. “It just makes more sense to encourage them with incentives to put that money into purchasing new equipment,” she explained so they would be able to hire additional employees and grow their operations while contributing to the local economy.
“We need to provide our small businesses with the tools that they need to be successful and that includes retaining good employees. Their employees need to know that they can count on quality benefits. I believe individuals and small businesses should be allowed to buy insurance nationwide and through professional associations as a way to lower costs and improve flexibility. Small business must be competitive to attract and retain employees,” Dr. Hatfield explained.
A proven leader in the fight to lower taxes and an outspoken advocate of small business, Dr. P. Kelly Hatfield believes that encouraging and providing incentives to small business is the key to creating new jobs and securing a strong economic future for our nation.
