kellyhatfield@hatfield2008.com Mothers Day Wishes The “Perfect” Gift Although flowers, candy and dinner out are all very nice, the gifts that mothers really wish for on Mother’s Day is that their families are safe, close at hand, financially stable and that their children are prepared to face the challenges that lay ahead in an ever changing world, says Dr. P. Kelly Hatfield, Republican candidate for Congress representing New Jersey’s Seventh District. A wife and mother of three, Hatfield says that mothers really yearn for those intangible gifts that keep on giving over and over. According to Hatfield Congress plays a key role in making these dreams a reality. “I find it puzzling that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a mother and grandmother, isn’t pushing through FISA, trying to make the tax cuts permanent and working hard to improve educational and employment opportunities for our young people,” she stated referring to legislation which has been put on the back burner for what appear to be strictly political reasons. “Our mothers should not have to go to sleep at night concerned about terrorists activities here on our own soil. Mothers should feel confident that their families are safe every day because our nation’s intelligence agencies have all of the tools that they need to ensure that safety,” passing the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act would do just that she explained. Hatfield also believes that making the Republican tax cuts permanent is an integral component in restoring financial stability for America’s families. “High prices at the gas pumps, rising housing and grocery costs and medical expenses are among a host of issues facing our mothers these days as many have the responsibility of managing the family’s finances,” she said. “With the cost of food escalating daily household budgets are being stretched to the max and sometimes difficult choices must be made at the grocery check out. These decisions can compromise the nutritional needs of their children and this is a terrible burden for our mother’s to have to bear. We should be allowing them to keep more money in their pocketbooks not taking it away.” “As parents our goal is to raise our children to be self sufficient,” Dr. Hatfield said. “We do that by making sure that they have the education and training necessary to be successful in their adult lives and are able to compete in what has become a high tech global economy. Congress could certainly be doing more to support these efforts in our schools as well as fostering the means to create jobs.” "For mom's who work, we need to provide them with portable health and retirement benefits so they aren't penalized when they change jobs. And for stay-at-home moms, we need to give them the same tax benefits that employees receive when they save for retirement, or purchase health insurance" said Hatfield. “Peace of mind when it comes to their families is the ultimate gift that we can give all of America’s mothers,” she said. “I know as a mom that is all I need or want and wish for.” A thirty-year resident of Summit, Dr. Hatfield has had a long and distinguished career in community and public service. She is a proven leader in the fight for lower taxes and a strong advocate for excellence in public education and preserving the environment. ###
