Woodbury, NJ (September 9, 2008) – With the start of the Wayne Bryant corruption trial Gloucester County GOP Freeholder candidates, Phyllis Scapellato and Larry Wallace, are asking if dual office holding Stephen Sweeney will hold Bryant accountable to the taxpayers of Gloucester County if he is found guilty.
According to a recent news article, Wayne Bryant is accused of, “billing the Gloucester County Board of Social Services $200,000 for legal work that, with the exception of 15 hours, was performed by others.”
“If Bryant is found guilty of having others do the work he was contracted to do for the people of Gloucester County I would hope the head of the Sweeney-Corzine team does the right thing and gets our money back,” said Republican Freeholder candidate Phyllis Scapellato. “Mr. Sweeney didn’t have a problem suing to get money back to restore his name after he and others were named in a sexual harassment lawsuit. The same standard should apply here.”
Republican Freeholder candidate Larry Wallace added, “Sweeney-Corzine style double standards should not be allowed to apply if Mr. Bryant is found guilty of using Gloucester County to pad his pension. Friend and ally of Sweeney, Corzine, Norcross and Warren Wallace or not, Sweeney should hold Bryant to the same standard he held others who cost the county money. The people of Gloucester County deserve more than double dipping, double talk and double standards.”
