At the urging of Cape May County Republican Chairman David Von Savage, state GOP leaders are considering a proposal to make the February 5, 2008 New Jersey Republican presidential primary a winner-take-all contest. In the past, New Jersey delegate selection rules had provided for the direct election of slates of delegates both statewide (At-Large) and in each of the thirteen congressional districts.Â
Von Savage, perhaps the state's most ideologically conservative County Chairman, is backing former Mayor Rudy Giuliani for president.

Tom Wilson has established a committee to study the issue and make recommendations to the State Committee who will vote on the process. Those of us inclined to support 2nd tier candidates are naturally concerned about winner-take-all and delegates on the ballot.

could help McCain?
with the GOP field looking pretty fractured, I think Giuliani wins statewide, but not by a landslide.
I think its possible a more conservative candidate could win in the far west and deep south counties of NJ, maybe enough to swing one or two of the 13 districts to another candidate, McCain most likely.
