Debt reduction suggestions

I suggest to redirect these donations to directly reduce the NJ debt. I would return the union donations directly to their membership with a request to have their union officers accountable for their donations.

Unions & Corzine - Perfect Together

$370,000 from unions.  Now you know why Corzine stood arm-in-arm with union members a year ago and said he would fight for a fair contract for them; one had washes the other.  And the middle class suckers pay for it in increased taxes year after year after year.

Editor's Note: The Inside

Editor's Note: The Inside Edge strongly stands behind our original report that PSE&G pledged $100,000 to Gov. Corzine's Save Our State NJ toll hike advocacy group, despite communications that seek to demonstrate otherwise and a release of their donors at the end of the day.

That's fine. Except a pledge is not what you reported...

"Among the donors to Save Our State NJ, the issue-advocacy group essentially formed by Governor Jon Corzine to advocate his plan to raise tolls, is Public Service Electric & Gas. PSE&G has contributed $100,000 to the effort, according to sources familiar with the SOS group."

As a general rule, donations ...

... do not have to be accepted or can be returned.  Maybe someone decided to deep six the potential 100K windfall to avoid negative publicity.  Thus, the official "donors" list does not reflect Wally's alleged contribution.  This all seems too sensible to come from Corzine's confederacy of dunces.  Then again, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while.

Either way, Wally's credibility is beyond reproach based on years of splendidly performing his journalistic high-wire act without a net.

BTW, in the event I decide to withdraw my buck-fifty pledge, I will e-mail Wally post haste.

tolls

you've got to be kidding me. the constituencies, i.e. labor unions, that are bleeding this state dry pour money into a boondoggle and we just sit back and let it happen?
shame on us.

Where is CW on this one.

It is safe to say that the Building Trade Unions would give financial support to the governor’s toll hike gimmick because to build the tolls their unions will benefit including want to be governor Sweeney the wiener, (the whore that he is.)  Sweeney and the governor need to stop doing the behind closed door deals, what he said he was not going to do when he got elected. The only one that benefits from this is the Building Trade Unions, Senator Sweeney the wiener and the Governor, because just like Whitman he is gone when the !@#$ hits the fan.

The public, Working Class people and Public Sector unions are screwed. Come on Charlie W. where are you? Stand up for WORKING FAMILIES, do not hide on this issue, you are the BOSS for working families. At least that is what you presented during the Family Leave Bill.

PSE&G

the PSE&G angle here is weird....they obviously don't have much of a stake in the toll-proposal itself, so clearly a donation by them is to placate the Gov's office for some other business they have with the state (i.e., rate hikes).

There's a story behind a story here as to why that donation has (apparently) been returned.

As usual, Corzine creates larger problems for himself by not releasing all the information at once.  (See: Katz, Carla).

Donor vs. Endorsement

The Inside Edge can stand behind their report. PSE&G is listed as a partner:

Verizon isn't on the donation list???

They have that company's political whore leader on their committee too.  I guess that they don't need to make a donation to this fund in order to get the deregulation bill passed and signed.

Two Sets Of Books?

Are there two sets of books here, one for show and one for go?

Perhaps, as a private group, they might be able to 'accidentally leave off' donors until they are truly required to report them next year?

UseSomeLogic, See my URL

Verizon is also listed as a partner.

Yes studmoose, play on words

Two sets of books, partners/endorses and donors.

Wally You're Slipping

Somehow you missed the SOS's sleight of hand. The press release notes contributors as of February 29th. That leaves seven days between the cutoff to be included on the list and the date of your post. Certainly PSE&G could have made their contribution during that time frame.

Political Hacks

Of course Godoski is "heading" this effort, she work at DOT for awhile, after being at DCA.  Comon Jenn, you can give more than just $50 after working those political patronage jobs!

Corzine on NJ1015

If I recall properly, Governor Corzine stated that the Toll Road plan is dead. There is no more need for the SOS group.

If this is true, let's see how long it takes for the SOS group to get dismantled, contributions returned and the website removed?

Toll Road plan is dead - in current form

Corzine actually said, the Toll Road plan is dead 'in its current form'.

The toll road plan is actually part of Access to the  Region's Core:

http://blog.newyorkcitycommunity.us/2008/03/01/what-the-public-benefits-...

Corzine also said he hopes a crisis wouldn't be necessary to push it through [sic].

03/11/08 1:33 pm

Yep Cal, You're Right!

This Toll Road scheme just won't die!

Why? Because we have a person who is in office that seems to not be able to admit he is wrong. I feel that there may be a bit of the helping out of friends to go along with it, if you know what I mean?

03/12/08 2:07 am

The Worse Part is...

Not only is the Access to the Region's Core (Monetization/Toll Hikes/Financial Restructuring/Buzzword of the day) a done deal; but the Public Benefits Corporation is already a done deal too:

Access to the Region's Core (Toll Hikes)

And the corresponding Public Benefit's Corporation:

unions and corzine

Your comment would make sense if you knew that the contracts the governor signed was with public sector union and all those listed as donors are private sector unions. Please do your home work and you will see there is a different between public employees and contracting out!!!
