ROBERTS: MANZO SMART BILL IS ONE OF MANY IDEAS TO BE WEIGHED AT SPECIAL SESSION & CITIZENS' CONVENTION
Speaker Applauds Hudson Assemblyman's Tenacity on Property Tax Issue
(TRENTON) - Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts, Jr., today said an upcoming special legislative session and a corresponding proposal to hold a citizen's convention to fix the state's property tax problem are well positioned to consider Assemblyman Lou Manzo's SMART bill aimed at lowering property tax costs in New Jersey.
"Assemblyman Manzo's SMART bill is certainly something to be looked at as the Legislature moves forward with a special session in the weeks to come and as we press the case for a citizens' convention to reform the state's property tax system," said Roberts (D-Camden).
"To be successful, we need to keep an open mind about the dozens of bills and ideas that have been advanced in the name of reducing New Jersey's property tax burden, including ways to cut spending and raise revenues.
"Assemblyman Manzo deserves credit for recognizing the importance of the property tax issue and for recommending an idea that is well-researched. Nobody can question Assemblyman Manzo's sincerity and resolve to address the overwhelming property tax bills of New Jersey residents."
