Slapped with a subpoena last week by the U.S. Attorney’s office, Assemblyman (and Union City Mayor) Brian P. Stack today made ethical integrity his staple issue in the race for State Senate in district 33.
“It’s about defeating the political bosses in Hudson County, said Stack, who appealed to the people – the 600,000+ residents of Hudson County in a kick-off ceremony in Jersey City’s Lincoln Park emceed by Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner.
Heralded by his allies as a 24-7 workaholic, Stack is running against the Hudson County Democratic Organization with other alternative tickets headed up by Assemblyman Louis Manzo, State Senate candidate in district 31; and Sean Connors, State Senate candidate in district 32.
Stack, who is under investigation for allegedly diverting money to an organization where his then-wife worked, is running on a ticket with Hoboken Councilman Ruben Ramos, and West New York Commissioner Claridad “Carrie Rodriguez.
“I expect a very dirty campaign. Why? Because they don’t have a record to run on, said Stack, who faces Assemblyman (and West New York Mayor) Silverio Vega in the primary.

subpeoena doesn't matter?
I wish I could say that Stack's subpoena will be a big issue, but in Hudson I guess that isn't so.
I support Stack!
I hope he brings down the HCDO.
Defeating Political Bosses?
It's about defeating political bosses? Is it really??? Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining, Brian.
Isn't Stack a Political Boss?
He is in Union City where he doesn't mind squashing oppostion. Sources in Hudson County say that Stack simply became too "bossy" himself with County officials and now has overstepped his boundaries. He will of course win his district, but his "unity" ticket is one of many "no-names", no money and really no chance. The person hurt most by all of this fighting is Assemblyman Lou Manzo who is a good legislator, but a poor politician who will end up on the short side of the ledger against Sandra Cunningham. Where does Manzo go after this loss? Does he wait two years to try to run for Mayor again? Or will this loss essentially end his career? As for Stack, predictions are he will make amends with the HCDO but take his lumps in the process.
Lou Manzo is history
Lou Manzo is history if he loses unless he aligns himself the the HCDO down the road or Sandra Cunningham breaks away and realigns herself with him. I really don't see either of those scenarios taking place, particularly the first one. He also needs to stop running for Mayor because he will never win.
If anybody is going to be a formidable challenge to Jeremiah Healy in the '09 Mayoral election, it will be Bret Schundler. I really believe that he will rise from the ashes and become Mayor again.
Bret for Mayor?
Will his ego allow him to set his sights on such a low perch as just Mayor? Certanly he thinks himself worthy to be a candidate for Governor or Senator, but Mayor? Dino could be right though. Maybe Bret now realizes that being Mayor is the practical route to go and his only real opportunity to win another election.
As for Lou, it seems that too many doors have now closed for him. This will be a last gasp election for a politician who has worn out his welcome with too many people.
Jose Munoz?
"The DFHC is also running Jose Muñoz of West New York in the special election for the remaining freeholder term of Hudson County Freeholder and West New York Mayor Sal Vega, who is the HCDO's candidate for senator in the 33rd District." -Stack Showing His Latin Muscle, Jersey Journal 4/4/05
Jose Munoz??? Is this the same Jose Munoz who has run in several elections for State Assembly and Congress as a Republican dating as far back as 1991 and got his butt kicked each and every time? He was so bad that in the 2000 GOP Primary, he lost a three way race to Theresa DeLeon and only managed to get 188 more votes than North Bergen white supremist/jackass, Hal Turner. He was so bad that when Jose lobbied for him to become a West New York Committeeman in '04, he couldn't even win THAT! Now Brian Stack sees fit to make this loser a Freeholder? Are you kidding me???
This just goes to show once again that if you are powerful enough and rich enough in Hudson County, you could run Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy on a Democrat Machine ballot and they would all win 3 to 1.
We the People Have the right to vote for an HONEST MAN
It is wonderful that we live in a country where we can say what is on our minds. Unfortunely some people make comments without proof. It's all HERE SAY!. Mr Brian Stack is a Mayor that works 24/7 for the community. He's accomplishments are many. HCDO candidates have none. Mr Stack has taken on the task to defeat the HCDO. These are the real bosses. They want to keep control of this county and not let an HONEST PERSON Spoil Their Feast. Mr. Stack and Mr. Manzo are Honest Persons and they want to make a change in Hudson County. Integrity First!!!. Abraham Lincoln lost many times before becoming President of the U.S.A.
WOW!
Where do I start? First off, don't even attempt to speak the name of Abraham Lincoln in comparison to a useless name without a face like Jose Munoz. Yes, Lincoln lost many different elections before he became President. That being said, he had a brain and a value system and didn't ride on the coattails of a party boss posing as a savior in an attempt to achieve some form of success.(If you consider that success.)
Second, Mr. Stack and Mr. Musto are honest persons? I hope to God that you're joking!! If you're seriously refering to Bill Musto, who was so bad that Bob Menendez ratted him out in exchange for immunity from prosecution from the FBI as an honest person than quite frankly, it should be illegal for people like you to cancel out my vote! Or should I just assume that you meant Munoz and you said Musto by mistake since you're clearly an illiterate?
I also find it astounding that you hate the HCDO so much all of a sudden seeing as though there is no doubt in my mind that you've been voting the HCDO line from top to bottom your whole life, as has every other moron who votes for this man every four years who says the same thing.
Folks, do you now see what happens to HCDO zombies when you attempt to introduce them to a "new" form of crack? Shame on Brian Stack for confusing all the minions! Just keep them all on welfare and keep your mouth shut!!
Change the Channel in Union City ...
It's time to go...nothing much has changed in Union City...same stuff...you fight things like dual office holding that make democratic representation and the city better. You hire outsiders and push out the locals. You're song and dance show is way old...ENOUGH!
New Chief of Staff ?
I vote for you to be Stack's new chief of staff, that is, if you're not his chief of staff already.
My mistake
Yes The name I was supposed to use was Mr. Louis Manzo and yes I agree with you Musto was no good. But you should wake and see in front of you. If you want to be in the world of politics you must put the facts in front of you and not just insults. HCDO have always had control of this county that is a fact. But it's also a fact that there is good people emerging from within and I support that. Stop your Tantrums and Whinnying. Let us be mature about it an d speak with the truth. This means speak with the facts.
Stop Trying to think, Carlos
Carlos, you dance more than a Riverdancer on Patty's Day. I wholeheartedly agree that you have to put the facts in front of you. The facts are that you and zombies just like you who have a new found disdain for the HCDO have spent years voting straight down the HCDO line, most likely not even knowing who all the people are on the ballot and not even bothering to find out. You would just see Bob Menendez or Brian Stack on the ballot and you simply voted straight down because you would rather have them do your thinking for you since you were too lazy to think for yourself. That's where we're at.
Now, Brian Stack, a dual office holder who has gone so mad with power that he thinks he's strong enough to bite the hand that fed him, wants to parade himself all around Hudson County as if he's the messiah? Only a brain dead idiot collecting food stamps and stealing cable would be stupid enough to believe for one minute that Brian Stack is a courageous reformer who wants what's best for the people. Brian Stack wants what's best for one person and that person is Brian Stack. The same goes for Sal Vega or any Hudson County Democrat.
Seriously Carlos, stop trying to think. You're not very good at it. I mean, really. It was funny at first but now it's kind of sad.
OOPS! Did I touch a NERVE?
Let us back up a little. Since you haven't Stated any facts. Well, let me tell you...Mr Stack Has been able to bring money into the city FROM which New Schools were and are being Build, Public Parks were and are being Renovated, Streets were and are being Pave and there are many other programs that benefits the community. Mr Stack wants to do the same for every city part of the 33rd District. Sir do you have a candidate? What has your candidate done for you and your city? By the way if you need to talk to Mayor Stack he has an open door policy. As one of Stack's constituents I present some of the facts to you and everyone else.
Nice Try
You state the facts? No, I don't think so. You're not dealing with a brain dead sheep here so don't play that game with me. First off, Brian Stack has little, if anything to do with the money Union City gets for parks or repaving the streets. Union City is an economically depressed municipality that get extraordinary state aid from Trenton on the backs of New Jersey's taxpayers who get their monies wrongfully redistributed into your little welfare state. Just because Brian Stack plasters his name all over every park and monument in Union City doesn't mean he deserves credit for its existance. If Brian Stack weren't Mayor, some other tool would be reaping the same benefits.
Yet, Brian Stack and his minions send out letters and flyers with Brian's face plastered all over them and tell all the sheeple that Brian did it and they rejoice for what their lord and savior has "provided for them."
Second, do I have a candidate and what has he done for me lately? Where do I start with that one? Well, what would a candidate be able to do for me? A candidate can't do anything for anybody unless he gets elected first. Furthermore, any viable candidate that even thinks about taking Brian on is thoroughly silenced, much like opposition in West New York, North Bergen and virtually anywhere else in Hudson County. Any storefront caught with opposition signs in their windows is promptly fined or closed down for "violations".
Third, no, you didn't touch a nerve. I eat morons like you for breakfast. Short of blowing up my car or spitting in my food, there is little that someone like you can do to get under my skin.
I do thank you though for picking up a dictionary and looking up the word, constituents. Judging, from your previous comments, you have a very difficult time grasping the english language so you must be really exhausted.
