ALLEN CALLS ON GOVERNOR TO FREEZE PORK
Asks for Halt to Any Disbursements While Ethics Complaints Pending
Senator Diane Allen, (R-7), issued the following statement asking Governor Corzine to halt any expenditures of state monies to organizations that are the subject of pending complaints before the Joint Legislative Committee on Ethical Standards.
Senator Diane Allen, (R-7), issued the following statement asking Governor Corzine to halt any expenditures of state monies to organizations that are the subject of pending complaints before the Joint Legislative Committee on Ethical Standards.
“In an interview on New Jersey 101.5, Governor Corzine stated that he couldn’t ‘testify to the innocence’ of some of the budget items. Given that suspicions are running so high, even inside the Administration, regarding the motives behind the insertion of some of these items in the budget, we should choose the course of prudence and halt any disbursements until all of the questions surrounding these budget items are resolved.
“The public needs to be reassured that their tax dollars are serving the greater public purpose and that their tax dollars are being allocated in a fair and open manner. I believe the Governor should have been more liberal in use of the line item veto, but the opportunity still exists for the Governor to reexamine these budget items and to resolve any reservations surrounding them. The public deserves to know that their tax dollars are being spent wisely.
