DOHERTY AND REILLY SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE THEY MISLED THE VOTERS AND APOLOGIZE

CORODEMUS AND KEAN CALL ON OPPONENTS TO WITHDRAW BOGUS ELEC COMPLAINT

Atlantic Highlands & Wall NJ: Assemblymen Steve Corodemus and Sean Kean today asked when Matt Doherty and Jim Reilly will acknowledge that they lied to the voters of the Eleventh District in making accusations about Republicans accepting "illegal" campaign contributions from Doug Forrester.

New Jersey Attorney General Peter Harvey, who has generally been reluctant to cross the Democrat leadership, issued a ruling Thursday that Forrester’s campaign contributions to Republican candidates were legal and permitted under current law.

Doherty and Reilly spent months this summer falsely accusing Assemblyman Corodemus of accepting "illegal" contributions, because he accepted a contribution from Forrester. They did this even after a ruling from the Department of Banking and Insurance left virtually no doubt that the contributions were legal.

"At best our opponents were more concerned with scoring political points than waiting for the facts," Corodemus said. "At worst they were purposely lying to the voters in an effort to advance their campaign. Either way, I think they owe me, Sean and the voters an apology."

Corodemus and Kean also demanded that Doherty and Reilly send a letter to the Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC) withdrawing the frivolous complaint they filed on these contributions so that ELEC can focus on more important issues.

"The irony is that while our opponents were making these false accusations, they were failing to answer questions about their own fundraising practices," Kean said. "They have yet offer a credible explanation about Jim Reilly's questionable 2001 campaign finance activities and have not produced receipts to back up their claims. They also have accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Trenton political bosses."

Kean and Corodemus noted that in a letter dated October 25, 2005, Carol L. Hoekje, Esq., the Director of Review and Investigation for ELEC, informed them that the commission would be considering an investigation into Reilly's 2001 activities.

Corodemus and Kean have also called on the U.S. Attorney and the U.S. Postal Inspector to review these activities as a possible attempt to access the state Democrat Party's cheaper not-for-profit postage rates.

In its endorsement of Assemblymen Steve Corodemus and Sean Kean Thursday, the Asbury Park Press pointed out Reilly's 2001 activity and stated that, "Voters have good reason to wonder how independent Reilly and Doherty would be in the Assembly if they are financially beholden to South Jersey Democratic boss George E. Norcross III and his minions in Trenton."
