Still mulling, and traveling

Two potential candidates for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination in 2006, Congressmen Rob Andrews and Frank Pallone, Jr., made the trek North to Bergen County on Wednesday evening to attend the reorganization meeting of the Freeholder Board. Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joseph Ferriero, who is expected to endorse Senator-designate Robert Menendez, sat near the two Congressmen in a VIP section directly in front of the Freeholders. Democrats have a 6-1 majority on the Bergen Board of Freeholders.

And Rothman will get the nod there in '08 if Lautenberg retires, opening up his Senate seat to a primary (assuming he doesn't retire before then, allowing Corzine to fill yet another Senate vacancy). Either way, Andrews and Pallone wasted a lot of gasoline driving up there.

I agree with both comments. Even if there is a 3-way primary between Menendez (North Jersey), Andrews (South Jersey) and Pallone (Central Jersey), Menendez still has the largest base. Also, Codey's popularity suggests New Jerseans are willing to elect a "replacement incumbent." And unlike Codey, Menendez has a significant financial advantage and can easily afford this one.
