Stop the presses!

U.S. Senate candidate Tom Kean, Jr. announced today that Bill Spadea, who won 40% of the vote in his 2004 congressional race against Rush Holt in a district that includes a stretch of Route 1, "will join the fight to stop the seemingly endless cycle of tax increases from Democratic politicians as one of his official campaign surrogates."

It only makes sense that Kean Jr. -- who lost his run for Congress in 2000 during the primary -- would have a guy who lost for Congress in 2004 as his surrogate.

The Kean people are consumed with process and not message. They think this will get them credibility with the conservative base. Spadea is shocked that anyone in the establishment would acknowledge him.

When was the last time Republicans avoided a serious statewide primary? Give credit to Kean for pulling off what many thought was impossible. People underestimate this guy.

Tom Kean now has a serious rival for his party's nomination. His name is John Ginty. Even though he was virtually unknown, he garnered over 20% of the vote at today's Middlesex County Convention. In a four-minute speech, he won people over. Ginty showed that he is a man of conviction, not fluff. Tom Kean and his staff must be very worried right now.
