He was a Burlington County Freeholder from 1985 to 1994, the Mayor of Moorestown from 1981 to 1987, and a Councilman from 1977 to 1981.Francis Bodine, a 71-year-old seven-term Assemblyman who was asked to retire by the Burlington County GOP organization earlier this year, is expected to announce tomorrow that he will switch parties.

There is some speculation that he will announce a bid for State Senate in the 8th district, where Republicans picked County Clerk Phil Haines to run for an open seat. Bodine had wanted to move up to the Senate when the GOP incumbent, Martha Bark, retired.

Reached at home late Wednesday evening, Bodine said he had no comment on his press conference. Asked again if he was switching parties, he told PoliticsNJ.com: "I don't have any indication that's the case. I don't know."

Bodine is the Deputy Assembly Minority Leader and has held office for the last thirty years. He has been in the Assembly GOP leadership since 2000.

Rep. Rob Andrews will join Bodine for a news conference tomorrow afternoon.
