Senator Kevin O’Toole (R-40) issued the following statement in response to a ruling made today by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC) forbidding former-Senator Wayne Bryant from using campaign funds for legal expenses related to his indictment on criminal charges of bribery, fraud and corruption:

Assemblywoman Jennifer Beck yesterday sent the attached letter to members of both Houses of the Legislature requesting they contact Senate President Richard J. Codey  to demand that he remove indicted state Senators Wayne Bryant and Sharpe James from the legislative committees on which they currently serve.

State Sen. Wayne Bryant is expected to make an initial appearance before a federal magistrate on Tuesday, and will be arraigned on Monday, April 9 ebfore U.S. District Court Judge Freda Wolfson in Trenton.  Bryant, a Camden County Democrat, was indicted yesterday on 20 counts of corruption.

CODEY STATEMENT ON THE U.S. ATTORNEY CHARGES AGAINST SEN. WAYNE BRYANT

            TRENTON  –  Senate President Richard J. Codey (D-Essex) today released the following statement on the U.S. Attorney’s action against Sen. Wayne Bryant:  

TRENTON – New Jersey State Sen. Wayne R. Bryant was indicted today by a federal grand jury, accused of unlawfully using his power and influence to obtain a paid, no-work job at UMDNJ’s School of Osteopathic Medicine in exchange for lobbying and bringing millions of dollars in extra funding to the school, and using that job and others to fraudulently nearly triple his state pension, U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie announced.
