PARTISAN POLITICS vs. TRUE REPRESENTATION
VOTE NOV. 7, 2006

UNION BEACH: There are two kinds of representatives in Congress: legislators and politicians. Politicians are partisan leaders who enjoy the power and influence of office and their goal is to keep being re-elected. Legislators are those who have a deep concern for the district and our country and see their role as servants to their constituents. Leigh-Ann Bellew wants to serve.

“There is the real difference between myself and Congressman Pallone, says Bellew. “I want to work for my constituents while he is looking to score political points for his party.

Bellew feels she is closer to the voters because she and her family struggle with the same middle-class issues that most of the residents in the district struggle with, while Pallone, as she puts it, “watches from a perch on Capitol Hill.

Bellew calls herself a Mom on a Mission whose differences between her and her opponent are stark.

“I want to alleviate the middle class tax burden by eliminating the Alternative Minimum Tax and the Marriage Penalty Tax. He does not. I want to keep the child tax deduction increase, keep tax relief in place for low-income Americans who were removed from the tax rolls, and keep Education Savings accounts in place. He does not, says Bellew. “His voting record shows all this.

She is emphatic about the differences. “I want to secure our nation’s borders and enforce our immigration laws. He voted against both measures. I want American workers to be able to compete fairly for jobs. Mr. Pallone wants Amnesty for illegals who would undercut American workers, and he wants to give them Social Security benefits in the process, she says.

Bellew watched the tragic events of 9/11 from the beach at Union Beach where, amid the odor of the fires, she and others waited for neighbors to come home. “Some did not, said Bellew, “and the shock of it clearly showed me that we are all sitting on a target zone. Mr. Pallone’s partisan voting on security issues has put all of our lives in danger. It is time for a change.

KARCHER URGES FEDS TO ACT ON SCHOOL HEATING ASSISTANCE BILL

TRENTON - Today, the Senate Education Committee approved Senate Resolution 13, sponsored by Senator Ellen Karcher, which calls on Congress and the President to enact the “School Energy Crisis Relief Act currently pending on Capitol Hill.

"New Jersey schools are feeling the pinch of dramatically higher energy costs this year - resulting in tough cuts to bridge the gap," said Senator Karcher, D-Mercer and Monmouth. "Already, Marlboro Township schools are counteracting higher costs by lowering their thermostats, creating a less productive learning environment for our students. As a mother, this is an unacceptable solution and the federal government needs to take action in addressing this national problem."
