Announcing Assembly bid, Garcia stands by her man


Nicole Harrison Garcia of Union City deflected reporters' questions about her husband at a press conference held to kick-off her candidacy for State Assembly the 33rd district.

"I'm running as an individual but I stand by my family," said Garcia, described in a Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO) press release as a Union City civic leader, wife, mother and businesswoman. "This is about the 33rd district, what is going on right now. I'm an individual, and I shouldn't be judged by anyone else. The questions should focus on this announcement."

Garcia arrested, will be arraigned today

Rudy Garcia served in the State Assembly from 1993 to 2002, and as Mayor of Union City from 1998 to 2001.Rudy Garcia served in the State Assembly from 1993 to 2002, and as Mayor of Union City from 1998 to 2001.Arrested on racketeering charges, former Assemblyman and former Union City Mayor Raul "Rudy" Garcia is scheduled for an arraignment today in the Monmouth County Court House in Freehold at 1:30 PM. Garcia is one of eight Hudson County residents charged in a $500 million illegal gambling operation. Dozens of arrests were made this week.

Garcia is a partner at MBI-GluckShaw, one of the state's largest lobbying firms. Garcia has taken a leave of absence from the firm.

Now, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of his friend Rudy Garcia, the former Union City Mayor and Assemblyman, who has reportedly been implicated in a $500 million internet gamblin scheme. Garcia's wife is Vega's running mate in the upcoming 33rd district legislative primary.

Ex-Assemblyman faces arrest on money laundering charges

An arrest warrant has been issued for Rudy Garcia, a former Hudson County Assemblyman and Union City MayorAn arrest warrant has been issued for Rudy Garcia, a former Hudson County Assemblyman and Union City MayorThe Jersey Journal reports that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of former Assemblyman Rudy Garcia on money laundering charges connected to an alleged $500 million illegal sports betting ring.  Garcia, a former Union City Mayor who is now a partner at MBI-GluckShaw, a top Trenton lobbying firm, was out of state yesterday when police attempted to arrest him.  His attorney told the Jersey Journal that Garcia was making arrangements to turn himself in.

"He had absolutely nothing to do with the operation of, or promoting of, gambling. He may have placed some bets, but that's the extent of it," said Garcia's attorney, Stephen Turano.

Nicole Harrison Garcia and former Hoboken Councilwoman (and mayoral candidate) Carol Marsh will run for Assembly in the 33rd district on a slate with Senate candidate Sal Vega, an Assemblyman and the Mayor of West New York. On a slate headed by Senate candidae Brian Stack, an Assemblyman and the Mayor of Union City, the Assembly candidates would be Hoboken Councilman Ruben Ramos and West New York Commissioner Caridad Rodriguez, an aide to Congressman Albio Sires.
