MENENDEZ AND LAUTENBERG CALL FOR MORE FUNDING TO COMBAT WORST GYPSY MOTH INFESTATION IN 20 YEARS FOR NEW JERSEY

WASHINGTON – This week, Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), along with several other United States Senators, wrote a letter to the chairman of the corresponding Senate Appropriations Subcommittee requesting for increased funding for the Forest Service’s Pest Suppression program, one of the main weapons to fight off the gypsy moth infestation in New Jersey. This year, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture reported that the 2008 gypsy moth infestation in New Jersey could be drastically worse than last year’s, which itself was the worst in 20 years.
