McCain picks up N.J. endorsements

Bergen County Clerk Kathleen Donovan, Morris County Freeholder John Murphy, and Morris County Sheriff Edward Rochford have endorsed John McCain for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.

All three supported McCain when he ran in 2000.

Donovan is a former Assemblywoman and Republican State Chairman.  Murphy sought the Republican nomination for Governor in 2005.

Courter endorses McCain

Former Congressman Jim Courter will serve as National Finance Co-Chairman of John McCain's campaign for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination. Courter served in Congress from 1979 to 1991, and was the Republican nominee for Governor in 1989. Courter is now the Vice Chairman of Newark-based IDT and is a partner at a politically powerful North Jersey law firm.

Courter joins another New Jerseyan, former Port Authority Chairman Lewis Eisenberg, as a key member of McCain's national finance organization.

McCain in N.J. on Thursday

Presidential candidate John McCain will be in New Jersey on Thursday for a $1,000-per-person fundraiser at the Newark Airport Marriott.  Lewis Eisenberg and Lawrence Bathgate, both former Republican National Committee Finance Chairmen, are running the event.

For McCain, Wilson opposes earlier N.J. presidential primary

For Republicans who think that GOP State Chairman Tom Wilson’s support of presidential candidate John McCain will not impede his bid for re-election in June, note his opposition to legislation that moves the New Jersey presidential primary up three weeks -- from February 26 to February 5.  Wilson told the Star-Ledger "It's an attempt to make New Jersey more relevant, but I'm not sure we're accomplishing that. I'd rather take the risk on being relevant later."

PoliticsNJ welcomes Governor Whitman with her first post

Over the past week, political pundits across New Jersey have been mulling over the latest Quinnipiac Poll which shows Rudy Giuliani and John McCain in a position to win New Jersey's fifteen electoral votes. While it's certainly early to be thinking about New Jersey's role in the 2008 general election for president, these latest poll results tell us two important things. First, New Jersey is winnable for Republicans.
