DONOVAN BANDWAGON ROLLS ON

Scores of current local elected officials and party leaders have added their names to the growing list of Republican leaders who have endorsed the county slate headed by County Clerk Kathleen Donovan.

With today's endorsements, well over 100 current Bergen Republicans leaders have announced their support for Donovan and her running mates including incumbent Freeholder Elizabeth Randall, Fair Lawn Councilman Ed Trawinski who is also running for Freeholder and Jae Kim who is the ticket's candidate for Judge of the Surrogate's Court.

Norwood Mayor Michael Kaplan said that the outpouring of support for Donovan, Randall and their running mates is keyed to two issues. "First, this ticket is the best qualified to run Bergen County government. Kathe Donovan has not only served as Chair of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, a $5 billion agency which operates without public subsidy but she brought the County Clerk's office into the 21st century and has turned it into a profit center and consumer friendly agency," Kaplan said.

He continued, "But before you can govern you have to win and Kathe and Lisa are the best vote getters the Bergen Republicans have had in decades. They will win. Their ticket will win. And Republicans running on the local level will win with them."

Grass Roots Support Grows for Donovan Team

The Bergen County Republican slate headed by Kathleen Donovan has picked up the endorsements of 28 more local GOP leaders.

Donovan, the long time County Clerk is running for County Executive on a ticket with incumbent Freeholder Elizabeth Randall who is running for re-election. They are joined on their slate by Fair Lawn councilman Ed Trawinski and attorney Jae Kim of Palisades Park. Earlier, the Donovan team was endorsed by eleven Republican mayors, ten municipal chairs and 27 local council members.

Norwood Mayor Michael Kaplan said that the latest round of endorsements, "Reflects the growing surge of support for Kathe Donovan and her running mates from throughout the county."

According to Kaplan, "The grass roots support that this ticket has attracted reflects the confidence that county Republicans have in the ability of the Donovan team to win in November. Kathe and Lisa Randall are the only Republicans elected countywide in years. They are proven winners who have also excelled as public officials. They truly are the best of the Republican organization. Local Republicans know that with US Senate candidate Tom Kean, Kathe and Lisa heading the ticket this is the year to reverse recent losses."

The Donovan Team Announces More Endorsements

For Immediate release:

SUPPORT FOR DONOVAN TICKET GROWS
PARTY LEADERS, LOCAL OFFICIALS JOIN BANDWAGON

Scores of Bergen County Republican elected and party officials have endorsed the ticket headed by Kathleeen "Kathe" Donovan and Freeholder Elizabeth "Lisa" Randall. The endorsements follow earlier endorsements from 11 Bergen County Republican mayors.

The endorsements come in the wake of a chaotic Republican County Committee meeting which was marked by Chairman Guy Talarico's refusal to allow the County Committee and Republican elected officials to participate in an "open" convention. Talarico ignored State Senator Gerry Cardinale and hundreds of Committee members and elected officials who pressed for an open convention. Instead, Talarico "ruled" that his hand picked candidate would get the "party" backing.

In his haste to slam the door on Republicans who clamored for an open convention, Talarico failed to advise the assembled that two of the candidates endorsed by the Bergen County Republican Policy Committee, Lisa Randall and Jae Kim, have decided to run on the ticket headed by Donovan.

Mayor Michael Kaplan of Norwood, a spokesperson for the Donovan slate, said that the latest endorsements "are a repudiation of the tactics which denied County Committee members and elected officials their right to have a say in picking our party's ticket."

He continued, "Republican party leaders and local officials urged Kathe Donovan to run. They called. She answered their call. Lisa Randall, Ed Trawinski and Jae Kim responded as well. They have formed a ticket that every Republican can be proud of and support enthusiastically. It's a winning ticket that will not only restore Republican government to the county but help elect Republican candidates in each and every municipality."
