GUSCIORA TO INTRODUCE 'PET FOOD SAFETY ACT'

Measure Calls for Producers to Certify Their Pet Food is Safe for Consumption

(TRENTON) - Assemblyman Reed Gusciora today announced he is drafting legislation that would mandate pet food companies certify with the State of New Jersey that their pet food is free of contaminated ingredients and is safe for sale.
Gusciora said he is drafting the legislation in response to a massive national recall of contaminated pet food products that have been responsible for incapacitating or killing tens of thousands of dogs and cats over the past month.

Request for Mandatory Recall Effort, Removal of Tainted Pet Food from Sales Shelves

(ROSELLE) - Assembly Deputy Speaker Neil M. Cohen today sent a letter to New Jersey Health and Senior Services Commissioner Fred M. Jacobs requesting the department take an active role in preventing New Jersey retail outlets from selling several brands of contaminated pet food that have been sickening and killing dogs and cats.
