GOVERNOR CORZINE CALLS FOR SWEEPING REDUCTION OF
GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS IN NEW JERSEY

TRENTON

- Governor Jon S. Corzine today signed an Executive Order to adopt proactive and ambitious goals for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in New Jersey. The order specifically calls for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, approximately a 20 percent reduction, followed by a further reduction of emissions to 80% below 2006 levels by 2050. DORIA INTRODUCES RESOLUTION TO HONOR FALLEN POLICE OFFICERS

JERSEY CITY - Senator Joseph V. Doria, Jr. announced today that he would introduce legislation that would rename the Lincoln Highway Bridge as the "Shawn Carson and Robert Nguyen Memorial Bridge" in honor of the two Jersey City police officers who died when their patrol car fell off the bridge last December.

"The accident that took the lives of Officers Carson and Nguyen last Christmas night touched all New Jerseyans and brought our state together to mourn for the families of these two selfless individuals," said Senator Doria, D-Hudson. "These two men died as they lived every day - working to serve and protect those in their community. There is no greater sacrifice."

RICE: WE NEED TO MOVE FASTER IN BUILDING NEW SCHOOLS

TRENTON - Senator Ronald L. Rice, Chair of the Joint Committee on the Public Schools, made the following statement today after the Committee heard testimony from representatives of the Schools Construction Corporation (SCC) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) on the status of pending school construction projects:

"The main thing that I am concerned with is the time frame in which these schools will be built. The Administration has been moving in the right track with the SCC and improving its accountability, but now they need to move on funding the schools we have promised to build.

KARCHER BILL TO IMPROVE SAFETY AT STOP INTERSECTIONS APPROVED

TRENTON - A bill sponsored by Senator Ellen Karcher which would require all vehicles to come to a complete stop at a stop sign before proceeding through the intersection was approved by the Senate Transportation Committee today by a vote of 4-0.

"This is a common sense approach which will vastly improve safety on our roadways," said Senator Karcher, D-Monmouth and Mercer. "New Jersey is a commuter state, and our reliance on the automobile can sometimes make for a dangerous situation, especially when we're in a hurry. Requiring vehicles to come to a full stop at all stop signs gives the driver the moment they need to take in their surroundings and proceed through the intersection safely."
