            TRENTON – The full Senate today put New Jersey one step closer to becoming a pioneer in organ donation, approving a measure sponsored by Senate President Richard J. Codey and Senate Deputy Majority Leader Joseph F. Vitale, that would make New Jersey the first state in the nation to require two key components – organ donation decisions before applying for a driver’s license and mandatory high school education.

             TRENTON – With Valentine’s Day upon the Statehouse, two leading Senate Democrats urged the legislature to shift the focus from getting hearts to giving hearts this year, by backing a bill aimed at increasing organ donation.  The pioneering legislation, sponsored by Senate President Richard J. Codey and Senate Deputy Majority Leader Joseph F. Vitale, was approved by the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee today. 

             Bill S755, also known as the “New Jersey Hero Act,” would make New Jersey the first state in the nation to require two key components – organ donation decisions before applying for a driver’s license and mandatory high school education.

Neptune, NJ – Public health officials and state leaders today applauded U.S. Representative Frank Pallone’s (R-NJ) efforts to protect New Jersey’s kids from tobacco by doing everything he can to pass legislation before Congress to grant the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority over tobacco. 

Local Health Care Advocates Call on Congressman Pallone to Regulate Tobacco by the FDA this summer

Local healthcare advocates along with over a hundred supporters gathered today for a Tobacco & Health Forum at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital to urge U.S. Representative Frank Pallone to pass legislation this summer to grant the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority over tobacco. The proposed legislation would require that tobacco companies disclose the contents of tobacco products and remove harmful ingredients; crack down on tobacco marketing and sales to kids; stop tobacco companies from misleading the public about health risks of their products; and require larger, more effective health warnings on cigarette packs.  Identical, bipartisan legislation granting FDA this authority (H.R. 1108) has been introduced by U.S. Representatives Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Tom Davis (R-VA).
