Guy Talarico announced today that he is retiring as Bergen County Republican Chair.
“I’m proud of my record and the advancements we have made,” he said in a statement. “I have decided that it is time for someone else to take the helm.”
Talarico cited his work and family as the reasons for stepping down, but he’s come under fire for what his critics say is poor performance in a county that’s been trending Democratic. His statement, however, touted his achievements as Chairman.
"I am proud of my record and the advancements we have made since I took office as Chairman,” said Talarico.

SENATE
GUESS GUY WASN'T INTERESTED IN GETTING BACK INTO THE SENATE OR ASSEMBLY OTHERWISE HE WOULD HAVE LEFT LONG AGO.
talarico resigns
What is Guy talking about? Wat accomplishments? Losing every freeholder seat? Splitting the party? Wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars ... if not millions. Embarrassing the party? His tenure was a joke. A disatrous joke. He should never be allowed near politics again. thank God the Talarico era has passed. Hope he takes Calaiguire with him.
Lance and Wilson
Lets go for the trifecta and have Lance & Wilson resign with their accomplishments in hand.
You've Got That Right!
I second that!

Talarico RIP
This guy has to be the biggest fool ever to serve as party chairman. The Democrats in the worst of times never had a chairman who couldn't pay a phone bill or the rent! The collapse of the Republican Party in Bergen County was happening for some time, but Talario's incompetence only hurried the process to the outright disaster the party faces now. To talk about achievements in the face of mounting losses at all levels of government as well as primaries would be laughable if it wasn't so sad. Political parties have an obligation to offer the voters choices. Mr. Talarico has created lopsided realignment and embedded one-party government. For the sake of taxpayers, the GOP will actually find someone to lead who isn't willing to trade patronage and appointments with the BCDO and Mr. Ferriero.
a rare call for a bit of incivility
Generally I would compassionately note that you should never kick a man when he is down but just this once I say this guy should take one to the nuts.
Personally, I have been
Personally, I have been against Talarico until he developed the male anatomy to throw O'Toole and Russo off the BC Republican line. Talarico's problem is he is a conservative and the Bergen County organization is not. The entire BCRO is filled with county and municipal workers. Not to mention the population of the Bergen County Utility Authority (BCUA). How can we get any fiscal responsibility with half the county committee works for the County, Utilities, and municipalities all seeking our tax dollars for their benefit?
There should be laws preventing anyone working for the government from running for election. Either take a paycheck or run for office, that's it. They are on both sides of the negotiation table and we the taxpayers are screwed.

Who should be in charge now?
Any one have thoughts on who should be chairman? Is there someone all can accept? We in the Shortway for Sheriff camp would appreciate the discussion.
Trawinski, Ortiz or Russo
All would do a great job and turn the tide! By the way how long before Guy becomes a Democrat???
Vince Micco for Chairman
Vince Micco would be the one to unite the party. He has served as chairman of the YR's, and under his tenure that was a vibrant group. He has also "took one for the Team" last year running for congress in Dist#9 vs. Rothman. The names mentioned above are all good man, but we need someone who everyone can accept for the good of the Party. BCRO/BCRI factions, including RED Faction which is emerging as the new BCRI would be supportive of Vince. Joe Caruso, the chairman of RED, was Vince's semi-quasi campaign manager last year.
"all I am saying, is give Vince a chance"
PSC,
PSC,
Yea right! How about finding someone who's capable of establishing Republican Principles instead of hiding from them?

A celebratory limerick, if you please ...
There once was a chairman named Guy.
Whose tenure went sadly awry.
He baited with race.
Then resigned in disgrace.
Bidding Bergen a final goodbye.
no time to gloat
So Guy has gone ? Now what ? Just who has the charm and the character to rally the troops ? The only one who can do that is someone who has been in the trenches. Ed T maybe, Vince yes, Russo maybe Mr Ortiz ? who?? not known by County Committee. There will be an election. The sooner the better. Who ever it is he or she must have the ability to put out political fires everywhere. There needs to be a full time Exec Director who can get on with all sides. Which candidate can get the most votes ???
Sorry I'm late ...
adding to this post, I was out getting the champagne.
The next chair needs to be young, energetic, have political experience and most importantly, have the ability to raise money. To rebuild an organization like this it may take a team of like minded individuals. We saw what happens when there is an absentee chairman in a county as important for Republican as this.
Micco for Chair., Ortiz for Finance Chair, Kazmierczak for ED.
Can anyone lose more
Can anyone lose more elections than Ed Traloseski?
Clever Xneu but, Guy didn't resign in disgrace, he shook the dirt off his feet and moved on.
"He who dares not offend cannot be honest." Thomas Paine
Is this the most delusional statement of all-time:
“I’m proud of my record and the advancements we have made,” he said in a statement. Proud of losing the entire county to the Dems? Under his leadership, the BCRO set a new standard for sucking.
Do you really want a different Chairman ????
Yes Guy has gone and you want to replace him with another well heeled white lawyer from million dollar vale somewhere north Bergen County. Send the DEMS a message draft Deacon Richard Stenard now!!!! WITH THIS MESSAGE WE TELL FERRERIO, WEINBERG, HUTTLE AND GORDON JOHNSON THAT WE ARE NOT THE PARTY OF WILLIE HORTEN
A County Chair is only as good as his ...
... municipal counterparts. Without strong local chairs who are active in their communities throughout the year, you will never make the inroads necessary to take back Bergen or any other county. When I was active in politics we formed non-partisan citizen interest groups and ran candidates from these ranks for town council and the board of ed every year in an overwhelmingly Democrat municipality. Even if we didn't win, we accomplished two critical things: (1) kept tax issues in the local paper virtually every week; and (2) built bridges to Dems and independents (who were equal in # to the Dems and represented the swing vote) who were sympathetic to our message. When the partisan county elections rolled around, we had a strong nucleus within the town to draw from and actually beat the Dems more often than not. The beauty of this type of guerilla warfare is that it is surprisingly inexpensive to wage (feature articles and letters to the editor in local papers are absolutely free) and you realize that every person you bring into your circle of influence has at least a dozen other people with whom they have sway (or even more if you can convert a leader of an existing civic group). You quickly find that a core group of as little as 6 passionate apostles will yield a flock of hundreds of believers in a matter of months. Whoever becomes Bergen County Chair should take an inventory of the municpal organizations, clean out any dead wood and teach their chairs how to make inroads on local issues that will pay off in regional or county-wide elections.
Random thoughts
Clever Xneu and Guy did resign in disgrace. It wasn't dirt on his feet and someone else undoubtably will have to clean up the mess.
Joe "the Republican Conscience" T is just bitter because with Guy gone, Kevin Collins can't hold the cross burning fundraiser this fall.
Guy wasn't responsible for a lot of what went wrong with the BCRO. To paraphrase a popular ad He didn't make the mess he made it worse.
Joe's friend Ginty finished dead last.
Ronald Regan wasn't a hater.
Do you think Republican Conscience knows that Thomas Paine did not believe in divine revelation or the Bible.
Jose Arango
“I’m proud of my record and the advancements we have made,”
Hey Somerset, perhaps he was refering to his successful track record of getting Democrats elected!
As bad as Guy Talarico is, there IS a chairman that is much worse than him still out there and his name is Jose Arango. Nobody is worse than Arango who doesn't hide the fact that he bows to the will of the HCDO who keeps him employed in Jersey City.
Getting Talarico out of the way is fantastic and a huge step in the right direction. Getting rid of Arango will get the other half of the mission accomplished. "
