TEAM ALLEN PRESENTS: "THE WASTE OF THE WEEK, PART 2"

Team Allen Presents: “The Waste of the Week: Part 2”

Burlington— 7th District Senator Diane Allen, and Assembly candidates Brian Propp and Nancy Griffin today released the second installment in “The Waste of the Week”- a series highlighting the many ways that New Jersey government has failed to live within its means over the years.

Waste of the Week Part 2:  Week of August 12-18

Shameless Self Promotion costs taxpayers $500,000

Documentary of Government programs is a waste

“In Fiscal Year 2006, New Jersey was facing a $5.5 billion dollarbudget hole.  However, the Governor managed to direct $500,000 in discretionary funds to an independent filmmaker to produce half hour documentaries on projects and Legislation that were important to him.  The state was literally spending money to make movies about how it spends money.”

New Jersey was faced with a $5.5 billion budget gap in FY 2006.  (McGlone, Peggy.  “A Codey Production: 4 TV Shows”.  The Star-Ledger.  February 3, 2006)

Despite this budget gap, the Governor still found $2.1 million to distribute in discretionary grants.  (McNichol, Dunstan.  “Codey handed out gifts on his way out of office”.  The Star-Ledger.  January 31, 2006)

The largest of these was a $500,000 grant to a filmmaker to produce public television documentaries about state funded initiatives and programs. (McGlone, Peggy.  “A Codey Production: 4 TV Shows”.  The Star-Ledger.  February 3, 2006)

"It's time to restore sanity to Trenton," said Diane Allen.  "We can only do that by cutting wasteful spending and reforming government in Trenton."

Allen is running on a ticket with former NHL hockey star Brian Propp and Airforce Officer and civil rights attorney, Nancy Griffin.
