ASSEMBLY DEMOCRATS VOICE SUPPORT FOR SWEEPING ETHICS REFORM PLAN
(TRENTON) – Assembly Democrats today issued the following multimedia package as Gov. Jon S. Corzine unveiled a comprehensive ethics reform plan that would ban pay-to-play, curb the influence of special interest political contributions and enhance transparency in the reporting of campaign donations.
The multimedia package consists of a video from the news conference, audio of same and a transcript of comments by Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts Jr., Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo and Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein.
The video can be accessed directly via our Web site – www.assemblydems.com – or by pasting the following link into a Web browser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN38DYNWAcA
The audio file has been included in the e-mail as an attachment.
A transcript of some Assembly Democratic comments is appended below:
Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts Jr. (D-Camden):
“This package of legislation, this package of initiatives, that the governor is unveiling today is so timely and so significant – a commitment to stop pay-to-play in New Jersey. A pay-to-play ban that is top-to-bottom, that is ironclad and is so carefully drawn that it will withstand a constitutional challenge.”
Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo (D-Mercer):
“After today I’ll be working with the speaker’s office to put forth legislation that would parallel what the governor put forth today to end any loopholes out there, to protect residents, the voters of the state of New Jersey, to allow them to put faith back into their elected officials.”
Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-Middlesex):
“People need to understand that their legislators and other government officials are here to serve the public first and last. There’s no other purpose to this work than to be here to serve the public.”
