TOM KEAN SUPPORTS ALITO NOMINATION
Urges Senate to Confirm Judge Alito to U.S. Supreme Court
Hamilton Twp. – Standing at Fred and Pete's Deli, Senator Tom Kean Jr. urged the members of the United States Senate to confirm Judge Alito to the United States Supreme Court.
"My message today is simple – confirm Judge Alito," said Kean as he opened his remarks.
Standing with supporters of Judge Alito, including Assemblyman Bill Baroni, R-14, Kean highlighted Judge Alito's background. "Judge Alito’s background is a classic and inspiring New Jersey story. He is the son of an Italian immigrant. Both of his parents were school teachers. Right here in Hamilton Township, Judge Alito distinguished himself as a hard working student – became a capable attorney and a valuable member of his community," said Kean.
Kean, who is a candidate for the United States Senate, described Judge Alito as a uniquely qualified individual with an outstanding background. "To me the best indication of Judge Alito’s judicial philosophy is his fifteen years of well regarded service as a Judge on the court of appeals. In that time Judge Alito has shown careful reasoning, measured decision-making and a respect for precedent. The Judge has consistently shown he approaches each case based on the law and the facts of that particular case," stated Kean.
While making the case for Judge Alito, Kean also challenged both Frank Lautenberg and Bob Menendez to not only come out and publicly support Judge Alito, but to lead the fight in DC for his confirmation. Kean closed by saying, “If we can’t count on our two Senators to fight for New Jersey and a highly qualified judicial appointment, who can we count on to fight for us?
