Top operative heads to lobbying firm

Richard Levesque, the Executive Director of the Burlington County Republican Committee, and one of New Jersey's best political operatives, has accepted a position with Insight Consulting Services, a government relations firm in Trenton.  Levesque was Doug Forrester's Political Director during his 2005 Gubernatorial campaign.  No replacement has been been chosen for his party post.

This isn't surprising, since

This isn't surprising, since Glenn Paulsen is the de facto leader of the corrupt BurlCo GOP. Further, I'm not surprised that a state Republican leader immediately transitions into a lobbying firm post, since special interest groups and interested parties have such an influence over the national and state GOP. No one even batted an eye when former Sen. Santorum, for example, went into lobbying once he was defeated in November; Levesque is just following what Santorum and many a Republican have done over the years. The line between industry and politics has certainly blurred in recent years, particularly on the Republican side.

Interesting, Martin

It is kind of like how convicted felon Tony Impreveduto can walk the halls of the Statehouse lobbying with impunity. Fleas, meet Dog!

06/20/07 12:32 pm

martinone - please stop talking

your posts are always naive. rich is a good guy. he is not corrupt, nor is he the second person to do this (behind rick santorum, as you allege). i know you maybe shocked - gasp - but democrats do this too. except usually they get some cushy no-show job in state government where taxpayers are forced to subsidize their salaries, bumped-up pensions and lifetime benefits. take susan levin at the port authority, sharpe james at essex county college, or the likes of joe doria and bernard kenny's names floating around, for example.

Oh Marty

Only someone with an inferiority complex, such as yourself, would lower themself to peeing on Levesque's parade. Give the guy a break, he is doing what many Republicans and Democrats alike have done and are doing. Please Marty tell us how many Democrats have left posts in the McGreevey and Corzine Adminstrations, the Legislature and DSC to start or join lobbying firms or work for trade associations?

Here is my favorite line from your idiotic diatrabe: since special interest groups and interested parties have such an influence over the national and state GOP. Hello! They don't have influence over the Democrats? Jeff Tittle parades around the State House like he owns the place.

Marty please do us all a favor and take off your rose colored glasses and see the issues that you have raised for what they truly are Bi-Partisan!

Good Luck Rich!

good for the gop

its good for republicans throughout the state to see this guy off the gop payroll. simply another old guard member who campaigns like its 1999.

Marty Marty Marty

The more you post the less credible and intelligent you sound.

I would venture that 95% of public affairs and lobbyists in this state were at one time or another campaign operatives. That's where you cut your teeth in the industry. And in the case of New Jersey, where Dems control the statehouse, both houses of the legislature and a majority of county government, there are more Democrat lobbyists then Republican ones at the moment. It just stands to reason.

And the BurlCo GOP being corrupt? BurlCo Republicans are choir boys compared to the Democratic organizations in Hudson, Essex, Bergen, Mercer, Middlesex, Camden and Passaic. Marty you must be tired from cleaning all those windows in your glass house.

As for Rich -- good for you. You've always been a good guy and a class act -- good luck in your new position and don’t let whack-jobs like ol' Marty over here get to you.

So Sad

Martin, where exactly do you think campaign workers and politicos go when they are done with the constant toil that is campaigns? Rich is not an elected official, he's free to go work where ever he wants and work for whom ever he wants. There is no sign of corruption or wrong doing here. So put away your magnifying glass and go search somewhere else, you rhetoric is wasted here.

lobbying firm

This place doesn't look like anything special to me:

http://www.insightconsultingservices.net/

I don't see how the E.D. of the Burlco GOP is going to help them much, but ok.

Is Red Jersey offline today?

Politamonkey: You make some thoughtful points about the correlation between industry and politics in the state, even if your good points are obscured by your penchant for personal invective. Respectfully, I don't consider being called a "whack-job" by someone who voted for the Bush-Cheney ticket twice to be a particularly credible claim.

There is certainly enough political corruption in the state to go around, but it is particularly rife within the rank-and-file of the BurlCo GOP. At best, Levesque was like Sen. Diane Allen and merely silent during each investigation, each no-bid contract, and each pay-to-play reward; at worst, well, you can guess what that is...

Thus far, I have yet to find a single Republican poster who will publically criticize the practices of Martha Bark, who had multiple no-show jobs, and Bob Stears, who cheated taxpayers of millions from his non-work contracts (except for backwardsnj, who criticizes all corruption, as I do). Meanwhile, trolls like RUKiddinME constantly deflect any attention on corruption in her/his own party and points to dual office-holding (a practice which should be outlawed, of course).

There was rule that was to be passed in Congress concerning former politicians not immediately being able to shift into lobbying once their term was over or they lost re-election, because it blurred the distinctions between industry and politics; of course, I'm not begrudging a person's right to lobby for particular issues. I think this is a fair and just rule to be implemented, even on the state level, though Levesque of course was not shifting roles from elected official to lobbyist.

Top Operative?

Let's review... he worked on the Forrester campaign, which was universally regarded as a horribly run operation. Then he goes to the Burlington GOP which was universally hailed as the top Republican County Organization in the state and hadn't lost a race in over 20 years and he proceeds to squeak by two D+/C- level Freeholder candidates with the GOP's top team in Haines and Wujcik and he LOSES the surrogates race to a guy who barely raised enough money to file an ELEC report. Then, to top it off he loses the premier race in the county and control of Evesham, the largest municipality in the county is gone. Gee, thanks for the "help" Rich. Good luck in your lobbying career. "Top" Operative? Only Democrats who beat up on him could have given him that title.

06/20/07 3:49 pm

Top Operative is right!

Get a life Martin! And LD8R get a clue! Congrats to Rich he is a hard worker and knows his S*%t!

High Taxes

Calling Levesque a hard worker is about as accurate as calling Attila the Hun a good humanitarian.

06/20/07 6:43 pm

LD8R

Why do you have to be a playa hater? Rich worked his fanny off. What have you done?

06/20/07 7:56 pm

Top operative

I could be wrong but....................... I think Forester LOST not once but TWICE!

What a TOP OPERATIVE.

Way to go NJ Republican sounds like a trainee of

LOSER WILSON.

06/20/07 8:32 pm

RUKidding ME?

Have you SEEN Rich? He most certainly didn't work his fanny off.

06/20/07 8:35 pm

Ok Cupcake

Hey LD8R what is a guy like you doing checking out his rearend for? You sound a light in your loafers are you sure you are not LD8D?

06/20/07 10:09 pm

Rich - Good Persom

Without revealing who I really am - I am pretty sure I know Rich better than 98% of the posters.

Rich is a talented individual with a keen political acumen and a strong sense of loyalty.

Good luck to Rich and his future endeavors.

BTW - Martin still lives with his parents.

06/20/07 10:23 pm

Levesque

Most of you don't even know Rich. And, why are you checking out his butt, perverts! He is hard-working, smart and fair. Good luck, Rich. You deserve the best.

Martin Wrong Again!

Martin: Once again you should get your facts straight, do your homework, and be careful about mouthing off on things you know little about. Your posts, as usual, are way off base, and just an outlet for you to spew out your wacky lefty viewpoint and silly diatribes against Republicans. 1) Rich is not a state Republican leader, as you say, he is a county Republican director (not chairman). You might be able to call him a state Republican operative; 2) Special interest groups and interested parties (whoever they are) have influence on BOTH parties at all levels. Duh! 3) Santorum was an elected official - Rich is not. 4) The line has been blurred? This is nothing new and both sides are to blame. This is certainly not simply a Republican blurring. 5) This is one Republican who is not afraid to admit and try to correct Republican misdeeds. Since you asked - here you go: Bark and her side-jobs don't pass the smell test. She needs to go (and she is!). Stears is a cheating, lying rat and what he has done is outrageous. He needs to go to jail (and I believe he will!).

06/22/07 10:00 am

Rich - Good; Martha - Bad

No show jobs bad. Pay to play bad. Using one's position for personal financial gain bad.
Let me count the arrests amongst the elected Camden Dems and Burlington Reps in the past few years:
Camden - 2
Burlco - 0
Rich - talented lives on his own at 25
Martin - blind fool lives with mom - loves meat loaf. On payroll of Rick Perr.
