It's all so predictable. An idiot shock jock makes outrageous and bigoted comments and African American leaders demand that he be fired.
The only difference is that the shock
jock is Don Imus. The offended party is the Rutgers Women's basketball team. During the most important moment of their lives, after years of hard work and struggle, they had to endure the comments of this fool. Now I
'm waiting. These young women deserve for other voices to be heard. They can't be impressed that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton speak out. That would be expected. These young women must be waiting for the establishment to speak and so am I.The pride of
New Jersey has been insulted. The federally licensed airways have been used for racial invective. It wasn't a mistaken utterance out of character. It was part of a pattern of failed character.Where are the voices? Governor? Senators? Congressmen? Demand that the FCC impose sanctions. Insist that the corporate ownership take action. The public
airways are for free speech but they're not available to demean, insult and divide the very people who own them.know that Imus is powerful and attacking him has a price. That's why they call it leadership.

Mr. EX-Senator, Imus said
Mr. EX-Senator,
Imus said he was sorry!
When did "YOU" become such an unforgiving person????
You're so full of it, Torch!
The only reason you're attacking Don Imus the way you are is because Don Imus despised you and has ripped into you repeatedly during you tenure as Senator. If memory serves me correct, he went so far as to call you "an absolute disgrace of a human being."
Don Imus has been doing his show the same way for decades and he is an equal opportunity offending satirist. If this were a black radio personality (many of whom say things like this, if not much worse on a daily basis)this wouldn't be news. The facts are that while I never particularly cared for Imus in the Morning myself, he's a good man who has conquered a lot of personal demons in his life and has done great charitable works for cancer stricken and terminally ill children on his Ranch in New Mexico and continues to do so. Infact, CBS and NBC were good enough to delay his suspension until Monday so he can participate in WFAN's annual radiothon to raise money money for sick children.
Disgraceful people like you and Al Sharpton who have ZERO credibility or relevance whatsoever simply want to jump on the Imus bashing bandwagon because you are angry, bitter, miserable little sycophants with an axe to grind, attempting to dupe blacks (and the liberal special interest groups they've pandered to for years)into thinking that you care about them when you only care about yourself and you own personal vandettas.
When are you going to start using your blog for other things besides being a whiny little girl who goes around clubbing their enemies in the kneecaps with a crowbar? Loser.
IMUS
Imus was disgraceful. So is Craig Carton -- when does he get a smackdown like this? I wish Sharpton didn't just focus on people with national attention. I guess it's because Craig lives in Pennsylvania and that's too far away for sharpton to care about.
Enough is Enough
Come on Bob, enough is enough. You have a problem with Jamie so you write an anti Jamie blog. It is common knowledge that you hate the Record and especially dislike Mike Kelly so you write a derogatory blog about Kelly and the Record. Now you go after Don Imus for a legitimate reason except that it is well known that Imus kicked your butt numerous times and for even better reasons. Why not just change the title of your blog to BOB-MY PERSONAL AGENDA. Not so incidentally, Bob, I am a fan, but you really have to move on. You are not that "Bob" anymore.
LET'S BE REAL TORCH
The guy is an entertainer. What he said was in poor taste. He's not the first. He won't be the last. Have you listened to black rappers demean and curse out their own "homies"? Why is it they can use the "N" word and make millions doing so and no one gets offended? hmmmmm He got suspended. Will go on a little vacation. Let's not hang the guy on a cross. He's really not that important. Let's turn this thing around and highlight the great accomplishments of a very good women's basketball team that we are all proud of. At the same time, let's not shoot a comedian or entertainer for making a bad joke.
People who live in glass houses senator!
Leadership? This coming from the man who wanted to grab a man by the genitals and cut a 80+ year old's testicles off? Or someone who calls another colleague in the US Senate an f-ing piece of human waste in front of others? Give me a break Bob. You are no better than Imus so save us with the morality lecture. Maybe David Chang can give you a few more suits and a couple of bucks to jet to Rome and ask the Pope for forgiveness. But please let someone else drive. We know you have a difficult time seeing folks behind you with those tinted windows.
Imus Comments
If you know Bob Torricelli and people that worked for him, they will all tell you that he was the biggest SOB that ever walked the face of the earth.  Maybe it was the Napolean complex or the fact that everyone wouldn't cowtow to this crook.
I guess he forgot that breaking the law by taking illegal gifts and using his position in office to embarass himself and the state, ok. Sure, what IMUS said was idiotic and without thought, but his initial apology was much more believable than someone who can't even admit being behind the wheel of a car. Remember that Bob?  Once a creep always a creep.
 Â
Dino, You are 100%
Dino,
You are 100% correct!!
"The Torch" (His Mafia Nickname) never went to jail for taking the bags of cash for his influence and now he is an arbiter of right and wrong? Give me a break!!
Republican Conscience
How long before Bob
How long before Bob "resigns" from this ill-fated stint with PoliticsNJ???? Each time he posts, he gets a royal beat down!!! What an absolute embarrasment!!!
Revenge ... is like serving cold cuts
On July 26, 2002, just a few days before the Senate Ethics Committee released its letter admonishing Bob Torricelli for his personal corruption, Don Imus uttered a very succinct comment about Mr. Torricelli:Â
"He should be in prison."Â
Such a simple and elegant phrase, encapsulating in five words the entire summation of informed New Jersey political thought about Mr. Torricelli. So wonderful, so pithy, in fact, that when we put together the "Black and White" TV ad that the Forrester campaign ran in late September, it was one of the seven quotes we chose to display on screen.Â
Is it any wonder Mr. Torricelli would add his name to the long and growing list calling for Mr. Imus's ouster?Â
What's more interesting to me is that Mr. Torricelli waited until six days had gone by before throwing in David Chang's two cents. It's not as if Mr. Torricelli wasn't writing last week -- he had two blog posts last week (one, posted the day before Mr. Imus's foot-in-mouth episode, trashed Mr. Torricelli's own former COS, Jamie Fox; the second, two days AFTER Mr. Imus's remarks, trashed Rudy Giuliani).Â
Wouldn't Mr. Torricelli have shown more "leadership" on this issue if he had been among the FIRST to torch Mr. Imus, rather than waiting to see which way the wind was blowing, and THEN sticking in the knife? I mean, Mr. Imus has already sucked it up and appeared for the ritual South Park apology on Al Sharpton's radio show, and both MSNBC and CBS Radio have already suspended Mr. Imus. By this point, calling out Mr. Imus is about as bold as predicting a national championship for the Rutgers Women's basketball team. Note to Mr. Torricelli: "Leadership" implies, necessarily, LEADING.Â
I guess if you've waited five years for payback, you can wait another six days.Â
But there's just one problem with waiting six days to serve cold cuts -- by that time, you've had them out of the refrigerator so long that they stink.
Thanks Bill
Nice South Park Analogy, Bill. I Loved that episode. It's really one of the only thought provoking shows on television today.
Hey, I've got some advice for Torch. How about you shut up and join forces with Al Gore in his ongoing quest to rid the world of ManBearPig?
EXCELSIOR!!!!
ANY COMMENT GOVERNOR WHITMAN?
Torch's conflicts aside, does the foremost female political leader in the state have anything to ad? You would think she has some interest in defending the Rutgers women - that is if she's not too afraid of angering her base.
Come on, Governor Whitman. As far as I know Don Imus hasn't tried to end your career as well.
What Base?
What base are you referring to exactly? Being that Christie Whitless has all but abandoned conservatives completey, you can't really lose what you never had to begin with.
The difference between Whitman and Torch (besides Torch being a greasy thug and a criminal) is that Whitman is smart enough not to stick her foot in her mouth (at least not THAT badly anyway)the way Torch did.
She is also not a vulture who waits until after her prey has been long dead before she feasts.
WHITLESS, YET SMART ENOUGH?
Whitman may be a moderate, but she's still a Republican. You don't have to take a survey course in American political history to know which party's base leans more toward overt bigotry. Criticizing Imus, who is without question worthy of criticism, would hardly constitute Whitman's putting her foot in her mouth. I highly doubt Don Imus is dead in any sense, so don't have too much pity for him just yet. He's the one who made the incredibly stupid, racist statements.
I think Wally would be
I think Wally would be better off with Don Imus writing a column for PoliticsNJ rather than The Torch.  Imus is not as controversial.
Wally, what exactly is the Torch's relationship wih PoliticsNJ?Â
Republican Conscience
let Torch speak!
Why do Torch's ethical lapses prohibit him from speaking out on any issue he desires? (other than ethics, I suppose...)
Amen, blackandbluejersey
Bob "I wasn't driving, my ex-wife was" Torricelli, should keep at remodeling/rebuilding his farmhouse! And MR. Torricelli, why don't you plant a few acres of corn or soybeans and keep yourself busy and out of New Jersey politics.
Sorry to harp on this
When is Bob Toricelli going to go away. What a pathetic person to have a venue like this to discuss judging someone and funny how he doesn't have the stones to even look in the mirror at himself.
Bergen County's favorite son - huh? What a joke!
AT LEAST IMUS SAID HE WAS SORRY
Which was more than this Tony Soprano wannabe ever did for the way he lied to the people of New Jersey, took the money and ran.
Thank Senator
Not the message but the messenger
It is not the message I object to, but the messenger. I do not think anyone would agree with the comments made by Imus - other than some white hooded losers who feed off of intolerance. However, for the former Senator to "lead" the charge is ridiculous. This is the leader who wanted to mutilate the genitals of Senator Lautenberg? That is something you want to teach YOUR kids? Calling Senator Lautenberg an f-ing piece of human waste (watered down for public reading) is something you find acceptable to teach your children as the former Senator so eloquently put it? For Bob Torricelli to preach morality to the masses is akin to Ted Bundy being the keynote speaker at a women's rights rally. Save the moral indignation for someone who cares.
The MESSAGE
I appreciate your response and I understand your point of view. It is unfortunate that many people in powerful positions, abuse their power and use language that is hurtful and disrespectful to others. I stand by my statement that there should be little tolerance for behavior that is in poor taste. This does include threats and insults made by any leader or public figure. With that said, I believe that our former Senator Torricelli has suffered for the errors of his ways. He was once a very powerful and influencial politician. He can no longer enjoy that distinction because he made a decision to not cherish the power that so many voters had entrusted in him.  If the comments you mentioned are true, then Senator Torricelli has learned the biggest lesson of all politicans and public figures. That while you are on top, do not become so self absored that you feel that you can demean or treat others in a disrespectful manner. The person or people you may target may prevail despite your harsh words and reach heights that you once sought and can now never obtain.  There will never be a comparison of Sentaor Torricelli and Senator Lautenberg, and Torricelli is aware of that. Senator Lautenberg will always be known as a politician that left a footprint in the success of rebuilding Newark, because of his efforts to secure funding for the construction of the New Jersey Performing Arts Building and the construction of the Newark waterfront. Senator Torricelli will just be a footnote as to what might have been if only he valued serving the people more than displaying his power. That is what makes our former Senator qualified to critcize Mr. Imus. He does it from experience, having enjoyed the privilage of being adored by so many, but having to face the errors of his ways and the consequences of his actions. That is a tough lesson.  Senator Torricelli is the appropriate person to adderss Mr. Imus, because he can serve a lesson to Mr. Imus of what can happen if you don't stop and consider the moral responsibilities that come with being a powerful public figure.Â
Bob " the king of ethical hypocracy " Torch
It's not what he said , but that Bob " THE KING OF ETHICAL HYPOCRACY " Torricelli criticized Imus . The Torch is the last person to criticize anyone . I seriously doubt the government is finished reviewing his conduct . Is it possible the Torch can bring down a federal judge ?
Shouldn't you be in jail you
Shouldn't you be in jail you has been?
Insulting to Italian Americans
Italian Americans are very sensitive about being unfairly stereotyped.  Many folks still think most Italian Americans are in, or somehow connected to the Mafia.   Your reference to "The Torch" (His Mafia Nickname) implies that the former Senator is in the Mafia.  Your statement is defamatory and the editor of politicsnj.com should regulate what is allowed to be said here.   Â
OF COURSE "THE TORCH" ISN'T IN THE MOB
People in the Mafia live up to their word and do what they say. They would laugh The Torch right out of the Social Club.
Mr. Ferrara and Politicallyfree
As a second generation Italian-American who is very close to his relatives "on the other side", I do not find the nickname "The Torch" to be offensive in the least. It was a nickname even his staff openly referred to him as. So relax on the view that everyone is bashing Italian-Americans. Politicallyfree - I fail to understand your logic. The way you describe it, Mark Foley should be allowed to criticize child molesters because he has "learned his lesson" and was chased out of office? He was "adored" by his constituents but his personal shortcomings and deviant behavior were more important than his duty to uphold the Constitution and our Nation's laws. Or our own infamous Senator, Harrison Williams, should be the keynote speaker at an anti-bribery symposium sponsored by the FBI because he resigned from office in disgrace after being convicted of taking bribes in the Abscam case? He learned his lesson, right? He was "adored" by his constituents having served 22 years in the Senate and another four in the House, but the chance to cash-in was too tempting to turn down. In order for the former Senator to be an authority on morals, he must first have them. I fail to see how being caught with your hand in the cookie-jar empowers the ethically-challenged to so quickly preach from the pulpit. PS - The former Senator said those things in front of his colleagues about and to Senator Lautenberg, and it is well documented. The former Senator also took improper gifts from a man named David Chang, including but not limited to campaign contributions, designer suits, and cash. Mr. Chang served federal prison time for many of his misdeeds but the former Senator did not. Lastly, the former Senator was found responsible for leaving the scene of an accident and tried to pawn it off on a female in the car with him. Talk about being a man.
Mike Ferrara
Mike, as a fellow Italian American let me first say, Shut- upa you face!
If anybody here is a disgrace to the Italian American community in New Jersey it's Bob Torricelli for re-enforcing those very stereotypes that you despise. It is not mine or anybody elses fault that Torch disgraced himself and committed criminal acts. He did that all, including receiving the nickname "Torch", himself.
So if you have a bone to pick with anybody, I suggest you stop attacking our freedom of speech and start aiming your outrage where it belongs, at Torch.
The OC
I appreciate the response and I understand what you are asking. I believe that any individual that has paid a price for their own personal behavior is qualified to address an issue that would enlighten someone that may follow the same path. So to answer one of your questions, yes, Harrison Williams is qualified to address recently elected freshman in the House of Representatives. He should let them know that it is the constituents and the office that gives them the power and influence they enjoy.  It is appropriate that a person that once enjoyed the priviage power criticize and serve as an example of what can happen once you confuse the power as your on personal right and neglect to act in a morally responsible way. As for the former Congressman Mark Foley, I do not see the logic in that statement because Mr. Foley has an obvious problem that will require a great deal of psychological therapy to address. As for the comments Senator Torricelli made to Senator Lautenberg that is really unfortunate. Because it is a clear indication that the power he was entrusted with was not appreciated.  Well I guess Senator Torricelli has had to eat those words and again it now makes him a footnote in NJ history of what not to do when you have power. Which I think illustrates my point, Senator Torricelli is qualified to address Mr. Imus about the consequences of abusing your power and conducting yourself in a morally unacceptable manner.  While Senator Lautenberg deserves and has earned the respect of many.Â
PS I appreciate the comments and the historical education.
Sorry
But that just doesn't make any sense. Again using your logic thru your explanation of Mark Foley, a person who has done something wrong must atone for his or her sins. Neither of the disgraced Senators Williams or Torricelli has atoned for their sins against the public. Being caught is not the same as atoning for your sins. So I fail to understand why they you have established? I certainly understand your desire to forgive these men for their lack of judgment and flagrant disregard of the law, but to believe that they now are capable to lecture others on what is right and wrong is ridiculous.
My only point
The only point I made, but not very well I guess, was that someone who refers to himself or herself as "repubican conscience" said that the name The Torch was his Mafia nickname.  I think that suggesting someone is in the Mafia is defamatory.   That's the only point I wanted to make.  I agree that bad conduct by any Italian American hurts us all. Â
Thanks
Thanks for clearing that up. Makes more sense to me now.
Sorry again
I cut and pasted very poorly in my post "Sorry." I meant to say "So I fail to understand why they now have the right to lecture others on morality based on the criteria you have established?"
Fired?
Guess CBS no longer believes in freedom of speech. Guess Rutgers does not believe either.
Frightening to know I am alive during a time where we all as humans will be forced to never speak at all.
Imus has been doing this for years. Best press CBS has gotten in years and years. And they fire him? I pay a pretty penny for my cable, and yes, I have been annoyed that my week has been all about Imus and Rutgers' need for press and respect regarding woman's basketball. There are so many bigger issues out there...more important issues, and I was always grateful for the humor of Imus.Â
Spend some time researching Rush L., Glenn Beck (Obama is not black enough), Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, Michael Medved and William Bennett (abort all black babies, the crime rate will drop).Â
Educate yourself on racism. True racism. Â

I guess as long as Bob Sommers runs this website, we're gonna see slime like Torricelli. At the 1st year anniversary of Sept. 11th at Ground Zero, I was standing next to this idiot. He was about to go onstage to make a speech. He had an aide, carrying folders and clinging to his every word. Wordlessly, Torricelli motioned to the aide who immediately produced a mirror from his suit jacket poickets and held it, just so, so that Mr. T could comb his combover. And this was in front of the families of the victims. What a guy!

I'll bet you wish you hadn't posted this one eh?
Misery loves company
Last word on this sad commentary. If anyone knows Bob Sommer, the empty suit running this site and Bob Torricelli, the empty head writing on this site, it's like a bad Laurel and Hardy routine. These two liars are made for each other and the only thing that keeps them active is the 1st amendment. Our forefathers are rolling over in their graves because of these two casualties.
MERCERNARY
Why are your posts the most childish I've seen on here? Go do us all a favor and at least get your GED. And I hope you're trying to be witty with your username on here because if not you've proven yet again how stupid you are by misspelling. Bob isn't the absolute embarrassment, pal, you are!
