Democratic polling showed that he was on his way to defeat -- a likely victim of rapidly increasing property taxes. Irregardless of context, the words Torricelli and principle go together about as well as Peanut Butter and Bologna.
This strategy isn't unique to Bob Torricelli. The Democrats(mainly Bob Menendez) forced Jim McGreevey out of office the same way in favor of Jon Corzine because they knew Jim McGreevey would've gotten killed in his bid for re-election. Anybody who is a liability to the Democrat's chokehold on the state is thrown overboard. The only thing that protects Bob Menendez(for the time being) is that he controls the party.
The question is, how many times are New Jersey Democrats going to pull the old bait and switch before voters get fed up with it?
