Republicans are hammering away on taxes today and the "Democrat-run" Legislature, while Democrats are trotting out their favorite election year punching bag: President George W. Bush and his veto of the state Children’s Health Insurance Program, which the U.S. House upheld today, by a vote of 273-156.
Republicans used the results of a new Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Poll that shows 49% of all New Jersey residents would leave the state given the choice, to dispatch Assemblyman Richard Merkt.
"Every survey conducted since Governor Corzine took office shows that residents are fleeing the Garden State's crushing tax burden and unbelievable cost of living," Merkt said. "Each time a fresh report is released, the news is worse than before. Yet the Governor and this Democrat-run Legislature have done nothing to ease the taxpayer's pain or solve the state's fiscal crisis. New Jersey residents aren't stupid; they're heading for the doors in record numbers."
Democrats, meanwhile, sent state Sen. John Adler to the parapet to blow a bugle against U.S. Rep. Jim Saxton, who was one of three Republicans in the U.S. House voting to uphold the Presidential veto of the children’s healthcare plan.
"It saddens me and families all over New Jersey that Jim Saxton today turned his back on the needs of children," said Adler, who is challenging Saxton in 2008.
Also voting to uphold the presidential veto today were U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett and U.S. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen.

Adler = Coniglio Apologist
Did Adler vote to dismiss charges against Coniglio? Yes. Why? I dunno... maybe Saxton should ask him.
Will Adler...
now get his colleagues to deappropriate the obscene pork he and his colleagues jammed into the State budget and redirect it to children without health care? No. Health care is only more important when it is a political football. Why put children's health care ahead of political pork fro Cherry Hill and Norcross stuff?
Taxes
Well the republicans are finally bringing up the subject of taxes. It is interesting to because they complain about taxes all the time, so can anyone explain to me why as a group did they vote against the largest tax relief program NJ ever got: the latest rebates? They voted against the budget which had the financing of the latest rebate program. Incidentally they always complain about taxes but very few come up with workable ideas to cut spending.
Rebates are a payoff, not a solution
Feely good politics as usual to get your votes, just watch what will happen next year, and the next, and the next, if real tax reform are not implemented now. This state is in trouble, do you really want to vote for the same political machine that caused the trouble?. get a GRIP. Get Rid of Incumbent Pols. get fresh blood in and lets clean up NJ. It's really not as complicated as the incumbents want you to believe.
Adler and Vets
John Adler should not be criticizing anyone. The criticism is coming from a guy who sponsored a bill to stop public schools from teaching students about Veterans Day and Memorial Day? Way to pay tribute to those who fought for this country so you can run for office, John!
