Joseph E. Haelig, Chairman of the Traditional Republicans of Ocean County (TROOC), says “if traditional Republicans are listening, we could see one of the biggest upsets in the history of New Jersey politics” from fielding a full slate of anti-machine Republican primary election candidates “dedicated to the destruction of the boss system and a new devotion to basic Republican values of Ronald Reagan & Abraham Lincoln.
”The slate with the common slogan “Traditional Republicans For Reform And Accountability” is: Murray Sabrin for U.S. Senate, Justin Murphy for Congress, Suzanne Penna for Freeholder, Pete McCarthy for County Clerk and Don Lombardi for Surrogate.
“Boss Gilmore and his associates have literally destroyed the fabric of decent government all over the county. They hike spending, they corrupt the political process and they raise taxes everywhere they go,” Haelig said.
“We recently revised our estimate to $130 million in extra taxation for Ocean County taxpayers each year from the implications and consequences of the appalling greed of Gilmore and other pay-to-play lawyers who control the political machine,” Haelig noted.
“That’s about $738 extra per family every year,” the TROOC leader added.
“Gilmore and Freeholder Kelly, the greedy machine candidate for congress, are responsible for appointing at least two hundred unnecessary employees in the county government, and probably an equal number in the school districts, municipal governments and authorities controlled by the political machine,” Haelig charged.
“We have a burgeoning recession in Ocean County; many families are in financial trouble, but Gilmore is using his power and his status as a pay-to-play lawyer to loot the government, and hand out huge salary increases and $25,000 health policies to dozens of political hacks who act as his flunkies in the county and local governments,” Haelig said.
“Ocean County College has become a hiring hall for the politically-connected, and is now being investigated by the NJ State Commission of Investigation for payroll padding and other costly abuses which are Gilmore specialties,” Haelig noted.
“If Republican taxpayers are paying attention, we can begin a big change for the better in the GOP Primary election right here in Ocean County,” Haelig said.
