Toms River, NJ – Having sent shockwaves through the GOP Establishment by launching their aggressive candidacies under the banner “Traditional Republicans for Reform and Accountability”, Republican contenders for County and Federal offices, Justin Murphy for Congress (District #3), Dr. Murray Sabrin for U.S. Senate and Suzanne Penna for Freeholder called “laughable” a claim by Ocean County Freeholder Jack Kelly that contributions to his congressional campaign are “the result of a strong reputation and tireless grassroots efforts.
Kelly’s claim was made in an Atlantic City Press story that noted, “at least 37%” of Kelly’s $313,992 GOP Primary Election campaign contributions “came from Republican officials in Ocean County and contractors who have done work for the county or Republican controlled agencies."
Kelly Fund A Hit List Of Greedy Political Hacks
Freeholder candidate Suzanne Penna responded, “Kelly’s slush fund is a virtual hit list of greedy political hacks, payroll pads, political payoff recipients and pay-to-play lawyers and engineers who are ripping off the taxpayers with over-priced no-bid contracts in Ocean County and its constituent communities: this is all recycled taxpayers money.”
Kelly’s opponent Justin Murphy added, “At least 90% of the names on Kelly’s contribution list are currently benefiting financially from Kelly and/or some aspect of the greedy Ocean County political machine that costs Ocean County taxpayers an extra $130 million every year in a massive corruption of the political process.”
Big Political Payoffs For Sahradnik, Bellu, McGuckin
Here are three of the most outrageous examples:
Political machine attorney Jack Sahradnik (contributed $2300) got more than $1.1 million in “legal fees” from the freeholders last year IN ADDITION to a $70,000 “salary” and a $25,000 health benefit package.
Political machine accountant Juan Bellu (contributed $1000) recently was awarded a $119,500 “job” as “Assistant Administrator” in Brick as a payoff for being the DMUA chairman who spent and squandered the agency into a $5 million operating budget deficit, the largest such local agency deficit in New Jersey history.
Pay-to-play lawyer Gregory McGuckin (contributed $500) is the Council President in Toms River and a partner in the second most aggressive pay-to-play law firm in the county. McGuckin makes millions from his political connections, and helped all time pay-to-play champ County Boss George Gilmore corrupt the Off Track Betting Parlor application in Toms River so the public never got any real input. Gilmore got huge fees for representing the gambling interests, and McGuckin’s wife got a useless $90,000 “job” at the County Election Board where Gilmore is the chairman.
Gilmore, Ocean County GOP Machine, Cheat Taxpayers Every Day
“We must rid ourselves of the bosses who cheat taxpayers every day in our communities, and it’s time for major reform in the Republican Party. That’s why I’m proud to associate with these candidates in order to rebuild the Party of Lincoln and Reagan in New Jersey,” said U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Murray Sabrin.
The “Traditional Republicans for Reform and Accountability” earned 37% of the vote in last year’s GOP Primary in Ocean County, despite being outspent at least 20 to 1. In Toms River, they earned 45% of the vote.
This year’s “Traditional Republicans for Reform and Accountability” candidates are:
U.S. Senate - Dr. Murray Sabrin
District 3 Congress – Justin Murphy
Freeholder – Suzanne Penna
Surrogate – Don Lombardi
Clerk – Peter McCarthy
