Traditional Republicans Of Ocean County Chairman Joseph Haelig has confirmed that lobbyist Christopher Myers and Freeholder Jack Kelly have chickened out of two remaining debates with Justin Murphy in the 3rd District race for the Republican nomination for congress.
“Both of them claimed ‘scheduling’ problems, but their real problem was they can’t stand up to the simple fact that Justin Murphy is the only un-bossed candidate in the 3rd District election,” the TROOC chairman said.
Murphy is running on a line with TROOC candidates for freeholder, county clerk and surrogate under the slogan: Traditional Republicans for Reform and Accountability.
“Justin Murphy was the only candidate that made any sense on the bossism issue in the recent debate on WOBM radio,” Haelig noted.
“Freeholder Kelly is a political hack who took an Atlantic City Airport ‘analyst’ job with $71,000 in health benefit kickbacks from Boss George Gilmore, the airport’s attorney who got $5.3 million in legal fees from the airport authority,” Haelig noted.
“Lobbyist Myers contacts members of congress for his employer, and 84%, or $294,000, of his $350,000 salary, comes from the proceeds of government contracts, so Myers’ claim that he ‘never got a nickel from the government’ is another lie,” Haelig said.
“Both Myers and Kelly are unacceptable candidates for a Republican Party that wants to have some residual credibility and integrity,” Haelig said. “This is why they chickened out of the only remaining opportunities for the public to see them on the same platform with Justin Murphy prior to the election,” he noted.
“Justin Murphy is the only 3rd District candidate who has any real integrity or credibility. But he has very little money for the campaign, and the other two candidates have $1 million between them to spend lying about themselves and telling the unfortunate truth about each other,” Haelig said.
“The more the voters see of Justin, the more they trust his integrity and honesty. That’s why the other two candidates chickened out of the two remaining debates,” Haelig said.
