The New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) has endorsed Assemblyman Jeff Van Drew for state senate in District 1.
"Your record in supporting the State’s law enforcement community and the State PBA on issues ranging from job protection, enhancing officers' due process rights, ensuring safety of corrections officers and recognizing the uniqueness of law enforcement pensions and benefits have earned our support for your election,” the PBA wrote in a letter to the candidate.
"I am honored to have the support of the PBA," said Van Drew, a Democrat. "Our law enforcement keeps us safe, they put their lives on the line and they deserve our supprt in Trenton."
The PBA has 33,000 members in New Jersey and over 1,000 members in the 1st District. Van Drew’s district includes 2 prisons in Maurice River Township.
Van Drew is challenging GOP Sen. Nicholas Asselta.

On-message this week?
So let me get this straight:
* On Monday, Nicky holds a dog-and-pony show to announce to the world that he loves cops and firefighters.
* On Friday, the PBA endorses Jeff.
* Oh, and let's not forget that firefighters protested Nicky's little shindig.
* Or that Jeff is a volunteer firefighter himself.
* Or that the FOP and professional firefighters endorsed Jeff a few days ago.
Sounds like a heckuva "message of the week" for the incumbent senator from the first district.
Kiss of Death For Asselta!
It is all over for Asselta. This endorsement is a killer. The PBA understood that Asselta has only given them lip service for all these years while Van Drew has delivered on his promises. It was Van Drew , along with his Democrat Sweeney , who caused the Bayside riot hearings to happen . While Asselta and his " outsider" campaign manager , Bill Pascoe, were trying to make a big splash with that firefighter hating Giuliani ,Van Drew was concentrating on the needs of the people in his District. That is the difference between VanDrew and Asselta.Asselta had to hire a campaign manager from Chicago to tell him whatthe people in the first District were thinking while Van Drew has a campaign, and a campaign manager, that is based in the 1st District. It is all over Asselta, start cleaning out your desk in Trenton.
PBA backing
Oh WOW!!!!!
Their a joke as well as who they represent.
Some Joke !
Over 1000 members who vote! That is no joke in the 1st District. Anyone who knows this District understands that this is a HUGE endorsement. Asselta needed the Teachers Union and the PBA to even have a chance. Van Drew has outworked Asselta and this endorsement shows the results of that work.
Instead of taking care of business at home Asselta started listening to his out of touch campaign manager Bill Pascoe, who has never won a big election in New Jersey. Bringing in Giuliani was a big deal for Pascoe but it did not help Asselta. Giuliani is despised by firefighters and there are many, many volunteer firefighters who will not forget that Asselta stood beside this guy.
Asselta should have run his own campaign , like he did in the past, instead of listening to this Chicago guy Pascoe.
RedGen: Where Are You?
Notice that RedGenerationRocks is not here now talking about his boss Nick. Not too much to say here about how Jeff got the PBA endorsement, and Nick did not. And Nick's father was a cop. And he is supposedly really good friends with Rudy, who is supposed to be the champion of the police and firefighters, although they all seem to hate him.
Only four weeks left Nick.....
