Von Savage ready to back Giuliani

The first Republican County Chairman prepared to endorse Rudy Giuliani for the 2008 presidential nomination is also the most ideologically conservative of the state's 21 GOP Chairs and the one furthest away from New York City: David Von Savage of Cape May County. GOP sources say that Von Savage will be the first of many New Jersey Republican leaders to back Giuliani.

The former New York City Mayor will make two stops in New Jersey on February 8 -- both fundraising events in Bergen County.

you mean Rudy won't be venturing to Cape May County? Shocking.

I imagine NJ will be fairly closely split among McCain/Rudy/Romney among the county chairs, but I think Rudy will win the GOP primary in NJ pretty easily.

It is way too early to put money on any horse either side today.

Von Savage is such a hypocrite! For years he would bad mouth Christie Whitman for her position on choice and other social issues. I remember specifically him lambasting Pete McDonough at in the lobby of the hotel where the NJGOP was holed-up for the GOP convention in NYC about how terrible Whitman was because of her veto of the partial birth abortion ban (which was ultimately laughed out of court).

So now, Chairman Permanent Suntan Von Savage is backing Rudy G?

Walt, you are always good for a laugh. You love to badmouth people and point fingers but you can't handle it when it comes back your way, which it does often considering your undying devotion to your girl Christie.

She not only RUINED the Republican Party, but she ruined the state. She put us in the hole we are in now.

Her shovels were the liberal judges she appointed to the Supreme Court, her policies concerning school aid and her overall neglect of the party apparatus. Fortunately she had the foresight to get out of the hole and abscond to DC when she betrayed her oath of office and left the State before her term was up.

Now she's going on book tours, you are crying on blogs and the State is paying the price for all of your team's neglect.

WhitsEnd (gee, clever) - talk about pointing fingers... The GOP

WhitsEnd (gee, clever) - talk about pointing fingers... The GOP controlled both houses of the legislature when Whitman was in office - they spent like drunken sailors, didn't develop any policy plan that had any staying power, and were completely outmaneuvered by superior strategists like Codey & co. over the long term. Simply, they took it all for granted and, then, well...retired. Took the helicopter off the top of the embassy. It's disingenuous to point the finger at one person as some type of game to push an agenda. There is a bigger, more troubling reason (besides sheer demographics) for the GOP's problems. But, with some of the emerging leaders in the party, there is hope - despite the whining defeatism of malcontents like you.
