Fed up with the negative tone of Murray Sabrin’s U.S. Senate campaign -- especially what has been described as excessive name-calling – Steve Lonegan has cancelled his appearance at a Sabrin fundraiser next week. Lonegan, the former Mayor of Bogota and the leader of the state’s conservative wing, is a possible candidate for the 2009 GOP gubernatorial nomination.
There is considerable speculation that an anonymous website that appears to have been launched on Friday that has launched some fairly vicious and unsubstantiated attacks against potential rival John Crowley, is the product of the Sabrin campaign.

Good for him
Good for Lonegan, and a smart move too.
Now maybe Sabrin will realize that he should change the manner and tone of his campaign and focus on the issues rather than continued name calling, distortion, and unsubstantiated mud slinging everyone is tired of and that turns people off.
Bravo, Mr. Lonegan. Bravo.
Bravo, Mr. Lonegan. Bravo. Unforunately, now that you've made the Sabrinista's enemies list you can expect a tsunami of cyber-slash and burn coming your way. Duck and cover, Steve.
Thank You!
Breathing a huge sigh of relief right now. Thank you so much for making this very wise decision , Mayor

Thought I'd Never See the Day
When you manage to turn off even STEVE LONEGAN, you might want to rethink some things.
Steve is lining up with Chairmen!
The latest news: in order to secure his run for "2009 GOP gubernatorial nomination" Steve Lonegan lined up with Chairmen in support of the Republican candidate ... [fill in currently viable name] for the US Senate.
I would not even bet my dog on Chairmen committments. They are changing candidates like gloves only faster. Poor Steven.
Great News
Murray Sabrin officially lost the nomination today!
Its funny
Because Lonegan isnt going to get the line anywhere. While he was smart to distance himself from Murray, he still has no real shot of state-wide office.
uhmm
While i disagre with the website, i think this is Mr Lonegan's opportunity to kiss up to party leaders. Its obvious he has been enjoying the limelight and praise from more Republican establishment lately. If he was so upset about crowleyfornj.com why would he make a big stink about it. It was getting no play at all until his announcement to dis Sabrin. So through his action he gave its creators and the content more attention. Typlical Lonegan...Party leaders will sing your prraises again for a week and then turn their back on you when you actually want to run for office again.
Posturing Going On...
Yep. I don't think Lonegan has been making any in-roads within the Republican party. Whether this will help, who knows? The party seems to have more internal strife than some of those eastern block countries do, approaching Iraq. Sabrin has been trying to deal with state party for what appears to have been a longer time, or just worse combat duty. How many times can a smart person bang their head against the wall before it is classified as a DSM-IV disorder?
Can you imagine that thought everytime you have to go to a meeting?
"Let's see... Go to this Repub meeting and have some twits in the party bust my chops all of the time or put a sharp stick in my eye? Hmmm, let me think... Where's that stick? Here it is. Ready... set... Steady... Oh, it just can't stick myself. Where's the keys to the car?"
Some of those Republican party leaders should just plain retire and get out of the way. They are counterproductive, are stagnating the party in a conservative thought that is not applicable anymore and cater to the beckoned call of the likes of McCain to determine who should be placed in the senate seat.
Guys, this is NJ and not rural bible-belt America. If you want to win in this state, you have to win the Independents - PERIOD!
And
When Sabrin loses his butt, if I were the nominee, I would REFUSE to accept any endoresement from such a lying, mean spiriited person.
More Cowbell Please !!
